PARIS, April 8 (AFP) - "The country is on the verge of civil war today. The majority of Iraqis are certainly happy to be rid of Saddam Hussein, but they are all against the American occupation, which is resented as a humiliation," Blix told the Le Parisian daily.

Worse, the United States hasn't stationed enough troops in the country to maintain order and prevent attacks so "Iraq has become a machine producing terrorism."

US President "George (W.) Bush, who has presented this war as part of the 'War on Terror' has gotten opposite result," the former Swedish foreign minister and longtime diplomat said in comments translated from French.

You're right on that. The vast majority of Iraqis either support the US or don't care one way or another. Fallujah is the one exception. But even in that case, the Fallujans for the most part aren't all against the US, they are simply following others in their "tribe". When we take out the top nutcases (Sadr, etc) these Fallujans will go back to normal, as their tribe will not be in uprising.

These Sunni and Shiite nutcase terrorists hate each other, but hate the US more.

you are right tensions are high. I keep expecting (not wanting( Fox News to flash that some liberal group firebombs a church sunday school or someone who has had enough of the 'peace' rallies and sedition takes matters into his own hands with an automatic weapon. It amazes me that someone hasn't done it yet. I can tell you that when or if there is a WMD attack here there will be a hell of a lot of citizens taking the security and future of the nation into their own hands.

Being defensive and withdrawn is the surest way to have fingers pointed at you, it's an old tactic of the left.

Blix must go on the offensive because he is directly responsible for the war in Iraq for failing to do his job as weapons inspector.

Richard Clarke must go on the offensive because he is directly responsible for 9/11, he spent billions of dollars on national security and not a nickel on stopping legally boarded passengers with box cutters from crashing into buildings.

They had to run Wesley Clark for president because he is a war criminal responsible for siding with bin Laden to commit genocide on the Serbs and one of the most failed generals in US history. The scandal would have come to a head by now otherwise.

When you are "out there" and on the offensive, the finger pointers stand behind you. I don't completely know the psychology behind it but it is the case.

Cheney reentered the public eye about a month ago and all of the halliburton stuff and anti-Cheney rhetoric died down.

I hear that there are large numbers of Iraqi personnel with the Marines at Fallujah. I hope they're helping in a meaningful way.

Those Iraqis are with our Marines for the same reason British cruisers stayed as close as possible to US battleships in the Pacific Theatre: It was the safest place for a soft target.

A second, even less kind, reason the Marines have them along is that it is easier to keep an eye on them, and shoot them, if need be.

Remember how many 'bad guys' have turned out to be off-duty Iraqi police?
Also heard reports during the beginning of the latest fighting that Iraqi troops had turned and fired on our guys, rather than on Sadr's crowd.
I don't know if that was ever confirmed or repudiated.
