Iraq on verge of civil war: Blix
Wed Apr 07 2004 20:12:14 ET
PARIS, April 8 (AFP) - "The country is on the verge of civil war today. The majority of Iraqis are certainly happy to be rid of Saddam Hussein, but they are all against the American occupation, which is resented as a humiliation," Blix told the Le Parisian daily.
Worse, the United States hasn't stationed enough troops in the country to maintain order and prevent attacks so "Iraq has become a machine producing terrorism."
US President "George (W.) Bush, who has presented this war as part of the 'War on Terror' has gotten opposite result," the former Swedish foreign minister and longtime diplomat said in comments translated from French.

I thought this guy was a so-called weapons inspector. I guess he's got an opinion on everything these days....
To: Happy2BMe
Although I don't really agree with the assessment that Iraq is on the verge of an all-out civil war, I do agree that the occupation is humiliating for most Iraqis.
I agree with what we're doing in Iraq, and I think we're doing a pretty good job of it. But the sooner that more Iraqi police and security forces can start playing, the better. Iraq might have been liberated by US and coalition forces, but it needs to be rebuilt with Iraqi hands.
I hear that there are large numbers of Iraqi personnel with the Marines at Fallujah. I hope they're helping in a meaningful way. When Iraqis begin to see Iraqis taking charge, keeping order, and dealing with outlaws, I think we'll start seeing a lot more believers.

Blix must be on the demtalkingpointsmemo fax list.
Maybe that's the reason Hillary keeps making trips to Europe.

Someone please explain to me why people keep interviewing this guy and asking him what he thinks about various things.
The guy is (well, was) a weapons inspector. Period. That is his (supposed) field of expertise. How the hell does that qualify him to sound off on all these other matters of foreign policy, warfare, strategy, civil society, and on and on?
Are we going to be seeing Hans Blix's World Series predictions too?
Seriously, who does this guy think he is? More importantly, who exactly do all these reporters think he is? I don't get it....

"but they are
all against the American occupation"
Okay, this confirms it. Blix is delusional, and a diehard leftist (sorry for the redundancy). Only leftists believe that a population of 30 million can ALL believe the same thing... you know, like when they all believed that Saddam's 99.999% approval ratings were accurate.

You almost gotta wonder if Blix won't show up in the memos when we start tearing into the oil-for-cash fiasco at the UN.
He's acting like an interested party.

To: Dr. Frank fan
It is humiliating when arrogant, condescending foreigners with nothing personal at stake in the outcome, see fit to give unsolicited advice to people in the middle of a difficult situation. It can make those people very angry.
Blix may want to stay well away from the United States for the remainder of his miserable life.
