US marines pressing an offensive in this Iraqi town west of Baghdad bombed a mosque in the center of the town Wednesday and killed up to 40 insurgents inside, a marine officer said.
The attack came from a jet aircraft at a high angle to minimize the impact, the officer said.
"We wanted to kill the people inside," said Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne.

As an American, this sort of thing appeals to me greatly :) Screw you DU. We need to kill our enemies. Once we've killed them all we can relax and go fishing.

Fox news is reporting that the attack was accomplished with a rocket from a helicopter. Who is right?

Oh boy. Here we go. Please buckle your seatbelts folks. I hope! its about time that we get it on with islam...they have said many times that they will not be happy until the whole World is run by islam....well...I don't want to live in the 13Th century in the dirt....
I for one will welcome the day that the "arab street" does something horrible enough to persuade the United States muckety-mucks to stop doing a p.c. operation and wage a proper war....It is clear that 3000 dead in the twin towers didn't do it...maybe a general uprising of the arab street will.

U.S. to 'Destroy' Shiite Militia |
|
Wednesday, April 07, 2004 BAGHDAD, Iraq A top U.S. general in Iraq vowed on Wednesday to "destroy" a Shiite militia led by wanted radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr (search) that has launched a wave of attacks against coalition forces in southern cities. "We will attack to destroy the al-Mahdi Army," Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt (search) told reporters. "Those attacks will be deliberate, precise and they will be successful." He said U.S. forces were trying to hunt down members of the al-Mahdi Army in the mainly Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City (search) in Baghdad, and he called on al-Sadr to surrender. "If he wants to calm the situation ... he can turn himself in to a local Iraqi police station and he can face justice," Kimmitt said. U.S. authorities announced an arrest warrant for al-Sadr, whose al-Mahdi Army militia battled U.S. and other coalition troops since Sunday in a half dozen cities, including Baghdad and mainly Shiite cities of the south, killing eight U.S. soldiers and two coalition soldiers. Kimmitt said al-Sadr -- along with Sunni guerrillas who have opposed U.S. forces for months -- are waging violence to disrupt the June 30 handover of power from the Americans to an Iraqi government. "All the Iraqi people that are watching this understand this. It all comes down to extremism versus moderation," Kimmitt said. "The extremists want to .. take this country back to an authoritarian regime or even worse .. some sort of Talibanization of this country." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,116399,00.html |

If we continue to hit the mosques that allow islamic forces to shelter in them,
perhaps the mosques' leaders will wise up and NOT shelter them.

Excellent! It's about time that Moselms are shown that if they respect their places of worship we will. If they don't, it's just another target with a pointy top.

FALLUJAH, Iraq (AP) U.S. forces battling Sunni insurgents in this violent city apparently hit a mosque filled with people Wednesday, and witnesses said as many as 40 people were killed.
It was unclear what hit the mosque. Until that incident, reports showed at least 30 Americans and more than 150 Iraqis were dead in the fighting for the city.
Anti-American violence intensified and spread to cities in northern Iraq on Wednesday as a U.S. helicopter went down and a Marine commander confirmed 12 of his men had been killed in fighting west of Baghdad.
