I Hope You're Listening Mr. Gillespie

Now I am not claiming to be a campaign ad expert or something ... but this advert by this Macallan guy is probably one of the most effective ones I've ever seen. It's sharp, concise, makes its points and is totally fact-based.

As far as I am concerned, if I were the big man (yes, I mean you, Mr. RNC Chairman) at the RNC, I would immediately go and shake Macallan's hand and buy(?) the advert off him, and that's after I offer him a job. Then I'll take it to my creative team and have them expand on it, (i.e. get a lot more cool pictures of Dubya, quotes, facts, figures, charts, etc.) seriously snazz up the graphics and music, and come up with a series of 30 second ads (Macallan's is 70 seconds long ... much too long for TV). Then put those ads into HEAVY national circulation from now till election day, especially the battleground states, updating as is necessary as more good news comes out.

Of course, this means that the paragons of "objectivity" at the New York Times and their allies at ABC, CNN, NBC, CBS, etc. would scream about how incredibly "negative" the ad is because it doesn't deify Bill Clinton. Next, we'll see round the clock coverage of really far left-wing "Victims of Enron/Worldcom/DotComs" claiming that the ads are "exploitative," "politicizing," and "disgraceful" and furthermore, really hurt their feelings. Next we'll have round the clock coverage of Jesse Jackson calling the ads "racist" because only 13.6% of the people in the ads were black, while black people are 13.64% of the population; GLAAD would claim that because a traditional family is featured, the ads are "heterosexist" and therefore homophobic; NOW would say that featuring a baby in the ads is a veiled attack on abortion, equal pay for equal work and women's right to vote, etc ...

The Press would seriously want the ads pulled because they would seriously undermine what has come to be their primary mission: Defeating Bush. They've been doing a pretty good job of making it sound as if America is back in the Depression era: because they know all they need to do is to influence the perception of the economy to swing a huge number of votes to John Kerry, which is something they can do. They did it to Bush 41, deliberately refusing to report about the economy's recovery in 1992 until Clinton was safely elected, and then, to add further insult to injury, they attributed the recovery to Clinton.

They're now trying to do the same thing to Dubya. This ad, on constant rotation around the country, is his innoculation, IMHO.

I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING ED GILLESPIE ...

I don't suggest running a "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" ad.

This is the Taking Care of Business ad? There may be copyright issues with the song.

Great ad. Upbeat, energetic, just like Dubya.
