Ok. Joined in this thread late...turned the TV on first. Is that the government saying "significant US casualties"? If so, that can't be good.

130?

That's the first report of a number that high. It does not jibe with what other news services are reporting...

Continuing prayers for our fighting forces and for the decision makers.May our mission be successful and blessed.

I counted 17 in all KIA in Iraq today, according to Gibson on Fox.

>>I see the media is already hyperventilating!

That's my point, too. Elections, like wars, are won or lost on perceptions, not necessarily reality.

In a country like the US, where the emoting chatterheads define opinion, a couple of Oprah shows can swing public opinion.

I don't think the parallels with Vietnam are very strong –

More of a parallel with Guadalcanal. The cleanup was the real story and very costly.

The end did come for the holdouts, and we did the right thing, as we do now.

A "SHTF" or "Tet offensive" scenario has ALWAYS been a top contingency in Iraq. This could have happened months ago, and we have planned accordingly.

I see where a 134 Iraqi dead total over the three days. Perhaps SkyNews reversed the numbers. Hope so.

Earlier, that was the number reported that WE KILLED.

We'll have a better idea tomorrow.

I have been reading this thread and one thing is abundantly clear. A 24 hours new source is not always good thing. Too much of a rush to report. I will wait for the facts after the battle. All this speculation and misinformation is making me sick.

That said, if the numbers dead are high.....maybe we will take the gloves off and bomb the entire friggin town. These people only respect extreme violence & force....so let's give them what they want.

My belief is that it's bad data, but the situation is very dynamic and there simply will not be reliable information at this time.

Odd, don't you think, that the Pentagon would release information to a British tabloid newspaper that it doesn't release to anyone else?

If there was an independent Kurdistand carved out of northern Iraq, with its own oil fields for revenue, and with the stipulation that they must allow free immigration of Turkey's Kurds, we might have a win-win situation. Turkey would be rid of their Kurd problem (along with their Kurds) and the Kurds would have their own self-supporting country

That's exactly what Turkey doesn't want -- they believe that an independent Kurdistan (or whatever they want to call it) would provide refuge and assistance to the Kurds inside of Turkey. The Turks believe that the Kurds will not want to leave, but that they would rather create their own state inside of Turkey's current border that will either be autonomous or annexed by a Kurdish state in today's Iraq.
