US military on the ground reported that they have killed approximately 80 of the enemy, but they just keep coming. The enemy has stated that this is jihad, holy war. Fine, let them come.
SPECTRES are coming too.

Is there still heavy fighting going on?
The Shiites are truly suicidal. It has been dark in Iraq for several hours now. The advantage the US forces have in night fighting must be immense.

What country plays by the rules besides the USA? You see these laws are only designed to punish us, and perhaps some of our Allies. My post pointed out that prisoners are needed to obtain intelligence information and that unlawful combatants can be executed undet the Laws of War.
Do you object to intelligence gathering or to the execution unlawful combatants?

We put them there, and I want to make sure there aren't any more Mogadishus. What did you call that barbarism over the weekend?

"Sheesh...this uprising will be over in a cpl days...this is the extremists Last Hurray....by saturday or sunday...our troops will be standing around with no one to shoot at..."
Let me state my position one more time for the record: You CAN NOT give freedom and democracy to people that don't really want it.
Islam is fundamentally not compatible with any kind of democracy we in the West would recognize. One day, perhaps in a 100-200 years or longer, Islam will have modified itself as means of avoiding total destruction. In the meantime, these Muslims in Iraq are not willing to fight for the vision of freedom and democracy Bush is trying to deliver to them.
Yes, this uprising might be over in a couple days - but there will be another and another and another. Have much more evidence do you need to figure out that Iraqi's are flat out not willing to fight for the vision we are offering?
America can not make these people accept a tolerant, democratic government. I know many people can't seem to figure this out, but the entire world just isn't as "enlightened" as we are. Combine a backward people and a gutter religion, and you've got a recipe for chaos that America can never solve.
For the record, I detest the leftist anti-war loons and the entire democratic party. I support Bush and will continue to. But I do not agree with Bush's notion of establishing a Islamic democracy in Iraq. It will never work, and all the advisors that told him it would should be fired.
We should have went into that country, killed Saddam's government as retribution for violating the ceasefire agreements and for shooting at our planes everyday, grabbed up whatever WMD's existed - and then got the hell out while we were still viewed as liberators and hero's by most Iraqi's.

"And MSNBC has a headline that says U.S. Issues Warrant for Sadr's Arrest."
I believe MSNBC has their "facts" wrong. The U.S. has been emphatic that the warrant was issued by the Iraqis. Just goes to show how messed up the media is in simply getting ordinary facts straight.

well sure, if it were Al-Douri, that would certainly be high value. but we have seen this "high value" term thrown around so much. it might well refer to the thugs who killed those 4 contractors.

I want this scumbag be drag out his hideout, be drag behind a humvee like they did in Faluja to these poor four people. I want him to scream like he never did before. What a total pathetic looser, if he is so tough why he is hiding. Enough of pc, I am on fire here.

Obvously not and that presidential historian is just as bad.I understood the President when he said we aren't leaving. How else does one say it?
I understood it was not going to be easy.I knew a lot of precious blood would be spilled. It is a violent country accustomed to a ruthless leader.
God bless our armed forces and help those under fire at this time.Guide our President, arm our people with resolve.

Nixon won in 1968 because the anti-war fight in the Democratic Party divided the party bitterly. Johnson was forced not to seek another term (which he constitutionally could have), and Gene McCarthy, McGovern, Humphrey and Bobby Kennedy fought it out on the left, with Humphrey the "establishment" liberal and the rest stridently anti-war. Then there was the mess of the Democratic convention and the riots and the Yippies, the infamous Chicago Seven which included Jerry Rubin, Abie Hoffman, Dave Dellinger, etc. Ya' had to be there, believe me. But, the bottom line is with the more conservative elements in the Democratic party disaffected, some Dixiecrats going for Wallace, and the leftish elements among the Democrats sitting out the election, Nixon was able to win. Nixon promised to end the war. His election was NOT a vote of confidence in America's conduct of the Vietnam War. His landlide reelection had far less to do with anyone loving Tricky Dick than it did with people being absolutely terrified of the prospect of George McGovern actually being elected. Nixon had withdrawn most US troops before the Watergate scandal came to a head, and had pretty much ended the draft. The decision to let the Vietnamese do the fighting had been taken before that. Watergate only made the final ignominious retreat from the embassy in '75 inevitable.

Hmmm. Does that mean he's a liberal Republican like McCain? Maybe CNN can ask John McCain that question?

Do you mean "casualties," (which includes dead and wounded) or do you mean "dead?" The way I understood it .. casulaties ment dead .. because Bret said a number of wounded and a number of casulaties
At first report Bret stated that casulties did not mean dead. But then reported that there were US casulties and dead.
