LONDON - A woman in Mexico gave birth to a healthy baby boy after performing a Caesarean section on herself with a kitchen knife, doctors said Tuesday.

The unidentified 40-year-old woman, who lived in a rural area without electricity, running water or sanitation and was an eight-hour drive from the nearest hospital, performed the operation when she could not deliver the baby naturally.

Next story we'll hear is that after the C-section, she rested for about 3 hours, then went back to working in the fields......

I had my daughter via C-Section, as well. Can't even imagine doing this -- even after several rounds of demerol!!

The biggest lie I ever told my wife was after watching her C-section in the operating room. She asks "how bad did it look?". I said "not bad at all".

I found the page after two attempts.

I had both sons c-section. This is brain-numbing to me. (Of course, so are the primitive women who go out in the woods and have their babies all alone, unassisted.) Were I a drinking woman, I would definitely raise a glass of hard liquor to this woman.

Ha.. that's funny. I can imagine the pain of labor trying to push that baby out was about equal to the pain of slicing yourself open. That baby was going to get out one way or the other and had she not cut it out, I bet they both would have died. What a rotten option. Ouch and double ouch.

I couldn't imagine doing such a thing, but when you think about it, it's not impossible.

Those of us who have had protracted labor, unable to deliver, know the kind of pain she must have been in already. And if she couldn't deliver, she might have died also.

Sort of like those stories you hear of people pinned under a car, cutting off their own limbs. You sort of do what you absolutely have to.

Remember before C sections, women just died in childbirth.
