U.S. Muslims seek Pentagon probe on Iraq photo

Soldier's sign says he killed boy's father, impregnated sister

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called for a Pentagon investigation of a photograph circulating on the Internet that apparently shows an American soldier mocking an Iraqi child.

The photo sent to CAIR seems to be of an American soldier standing next to two Iraqi children who are giving the thumbs-up sign. One child holds a hand-lettered sign in English that reads: "Lcpl Boudreaux killed my Dad, th(en) he knocked up my sister!" ("Knocked up" is American slang for making someone pregnant out of wedlock.)

CAIR should be careful demanding investigations. They will come out smelling rather rank. Anyone who sides with this group should be investigated as well. My only thought as to why we let CAIR operate is to ease drop on them. BTW, that is a hilarious photo. Got it the other day in the in box.

i totally agree. organizations like this only exist if there is some sort crisis ...sometimes one must be manufactured. cair is obviously trying to "stir the pot".

Its not my work, it just goes to prove that any photo can be faked to say whatever you want it to. Remember a rather convincing photo floating about on FR not too long ago with JF'nK and another traitor that many in the press thought was real?

I agree that if the photo is authentic, the soldier should be reprimanded. And it would not surprise me if it was authentic - of all our thousands of soldiers over there, some are sure to be boorish smart-asses. On the other hand, it would not surprise me if it is fake. As for CAIR, they can go to hell. It figures that out of everything going on over there, this is what they would pick up on.

Some one's post on another site that seems to believe that this photo is fake. [I don't see all that he's pointing to, as it looks real to me, but what do I know]:

This is not even a good fake, lets run it down for the skeptics. BTW actually read this before you censor it again.

1.Look at the blue arrows - those cardboard colored smudges are very obviouslly where the original text was smudged out with a color sample from the cardboard. The author used the same color sample for each section that was to be wiped out and didn't take into account the subtle color diferences in the cardboard (light, staining, etc.) that's why some of them are more pronounced than others

2.Each of the new words were put in a color block and placed on the cardboard and then the author tried to blend in the edges, but you can still see the outline of the shape of each block.

3. Very sloppy work on the word "knocked". This word block was laid down twice the last had a straight edge on the left. Guessing the word was misspelled the first time and the second laid over the first in a hurry - take a look at the letters you can still see some of the edges of the text of the first attempt and they don't quite match up

4. OK to address the "thumb" (in the green circle) this is probably the most damaging problem with the picture. Consider this: if it is the boys thumb it would have to be about 5 inches long, second look at the color of the skin, it is lighter than the fingers below indicating that it must be the palm side of his hand (the skin of darker colored skinned peoples palms are lighter and have a pinkish hue)- if it is the back of his hand it is physically impossible for his thumb to be in the position, not to mention parallel with the fingers).

5. Some additional sloppy work by what is presumed to be "then" - the author let some of the boys skin color to bleed into the "th".

6. More sloppyness in the shadow at the left of the sign. There was some text there that had to be covered up - the dark opaque color used caused all of the wierd off-color zig zags you see - photoshop couldn't resolve the color because of all of the shade of black and grey all around that part of the image.

7. OK now the kill shot - take a look at the blue circles - some of the original text of the sign bleeds through. It is in a different handrighting with more block style caps with straight edges (men typically do this - ask you local graphologist).

this was obviouslly a badly done fake, probably a prank played by the soldiers mildly pc skilled buddy. After all who else would know what the abbreviation of Lance Corporal is. (The author knew - hmmmmm) Sometimes you will also see it as L/cpl.

This is too funny. CAIR probably doctored the photos themselves. American Muslims they are not. They aren't americans in the true sense. If they were, they would come out and condemn terrorism and quit funding it. They are just in the states to take advantage of the system and proliferate so they have political power. They should all be deported, period.

i recognize the blocking, etc., that you're pointing out as typical artifacts from JPG compression, which tends to "jitter" around text and flatten out between words. this is just the usual expected results of the common compression algorithms that we're seeing here. i've seen the same thing tons of times on unaltered photos. my experience with photoshop goes back about 6 years, and i did work for all sorts of corporate folks, working on adverts and sh*t like that. what we have with this photo is what you'd expect from a web-quality (that is to say, very low quality) JPG. it's just this kind of thing that plagues you when you're doing design and trying to balance crispness with file size. text f*cks you over every time.

nice try, though. you sound very convincing to people who don't know this stuff, i'm sure. but not to me.

the actual real message, after painstaking work through multiple computer clusters, is now revealed:

I copied the photo into Photoshop and zoomed in. It's pretty clear to me that the cardboard has been altered. The horizontal line patterns are chunky and all over the place, like somebody copied a blank spot and then pasted it repeatedly over the original text. Then they smudged it all up a little before pasting the new text over it.

Registered, any analysis from the master?

CAIR seems to infer that the GI reads and understands Arabic. This kids probably thought it was funny to get the GI to pose for the photo. A tather sick practical joke if I do say so...

... CAIR, which frankly should not be allowed to operate in the US. They are not an innocent organization defending the rights of US muslims. They have outrageous links to terror, and they make excuses for terrorism.

I think it's a manipulated photo. Zoom in and look at the upper right corner of the sign, and there's a definite blurring effect that doesn't match the rest of the sign. There are also a couple other places on it where the corrugated pattern just doesn't look quite right.
