Katy (Crackhead)Couric: Saddam Was Iraq's 'Ultimate Referee'
Newsmax ^ | 4/6/04

Posted on 04/06/2004 8:52:50 AM PDT by areafiftyone

"Today Show" host Katie Couric apparently just can't resist giving deposed Iraqi mass murderer Saddam Hussein an occasional compliment.

During an interview with Senators Joe Biden and John McCain on Monday, she said that while the Butcher of Baghdad may have been "deplorable," at least he "kept the Sunnis and the Shiites apart and from killing each other?"

Actually, Couric's party right - though she failed to mention how Hussein accomplished his amazing peacekeeping miracle: by exterminating the Shiites who dared to rise up against him, including the father of the Iraqi imam who's currently leading the latest insurgency.

Last year Couric stepped into it during a chat with NBC's Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski, when she asked if he could confirm reports that Saddam had escaped coalition forces by fleeing "to Tikrit, and then Mosul, and then hopefully to Syria."

I long for the day that Katy interviews a guest that actually has brains, and the guest starts staring at the floor for a few seconds, then says, "Excuse me Katy, you appear to have dropped your brains."

Instead of a "Penalty Box" he used a plastic shredder! Bet nobody ever accused Saddam of needing glasses!

A lot of times dictators manage to keep a country together that would otherwise have split up long before. Tito did it in Yugoslavia.

It's generally done with sheer brutality, as we've seen in Saddams case.

What a moronic remark!
If Couric's brains were dynamite she couldn't blow her nose!

Katie is correct.

By using Joe Stalin's paradigm of governance, Saddam kept Shiites and Sunnis from killing each other.

In Yugoslavia, Tito kept Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Macedonians and Montenegrins from killing each other.

In Spain, Franco kept adherents of the old republic, communists and fascists from killing each other. By the time he died, the battleground had cooled enough to give root to democracy.

Lenin, Stalin and other Soviet leaders kept the many ethnic entities of the old Soviet Union from killing each other.

The common thread is that these people caused natural enemies to hate and fear the dictator who ruled over them, not hate each other. Remove the dictator, and rivalries that are centuries old come to the surface again.

It's called "peace at a price."

With liberals, the only thing wrong with tyranny is the person in charge. It ought to be them.

Well, I, for one, am glad Saddam's rape rooms are a thing of the past.

Tell me what you think about the rape rooms in Sudan? They rape little boys, and girls. The Arab Moslems killed 2 millions! Does that classify as holocaust in your book? The reason you don't know or care about the rape room in Sudan is THE VICTIMS ARE CHRISTIANS. They don't deserve our sympathy. Moslems in Iraq and Bosnia make us cry! May be we hate Christians!

I think perky Katie would change her tune if she were a guest in one of those rooms.

Funny, I suspect if Katies daughters had been subjected to the rape rooms, she might have a different perspective on the wonders of Saddam's regime......

Then again, liberals during the cold war were all agoga bout the wonders of Communism....failing to understand that by definition they would be the first executed, the first sentenced to the gulag and re education camps.

How anyone can watch Katie Couric is simply mindboggling to me. The Today Show is one long running Democratic Party Informercial.

Ah, so Katie thinks trouble makers should be exterminated? Great, Katie. When I wipe out participants in the next anti-WTO riots, I'm sure you'll say I've done a good thing.

Like I said on the other thread, I am beginning to think the USA action in Iraq was to prevent a repeat of what happened in Iran when the Shah became ill. Saddam was losing it. His son's were paper tigers, not respected. I think we moved to stop Iran from annexing some more property to match their beautiful Mediterranean seaside property in Lebanon. Iran has some powerful nojo demographically speaking with all those Shias.

It is not just a coincidence that leftists venerate every despot that opposes the United States. The Left’s embrace of militant Islam today is just a logical continuation of Western intellectuals who travelled to Soviet Russia in the 1930s and worshipped Stalin -- and of Jane Fonda praising the North Vietnamese despots.

What I am getting at here is that there is a malicious and sinister objective within the heart of the Left. It craves totalitarianism, because totalitarianism will suffocate freedom and, ultimately, human life itself – which the Left hates the most. That every communist revolution ate its own children reveals a pernicious death wish in the heart of the Left, and I think it is very much in prominence once again in the War on Terror, in which the left is now in love with those despots who, once again, offer them the dream of extinguishing their own civil society and the freedom within it.

You find this interpretation too extreme?

To a certain extent, yes I do find it a bit too extreme.

Back in the 1980's I had occasion to become friendly with a well known news anchor (currently) here in Cincinnati. She was a liberal, to be sure. In about 1985 she traveled to the old Soviet Union, and was just excited as all get out to see "the real Soviet Union, and communism as its applied beyond a classroom at the University" (paraphrasing). She returned two weeks later.

She's been a very hardcore Conservative ever since. She saw the food lines, saw the crime, saw the depressing nature of communism "beyond the classroom" and recoiled in dramatic fashion.

Stalin had it right, when he talked about "useful idiots". Your average "idiot" is unaware they are stupid....in much the same way a cow chewing its cud in a field is "unaware".

Doesn't make them any less dangerous...and in specific situations, it makes them more dangerous, to be sure.

But I don't assign "evil intent" to the average idiot's I run across. I reserve that for those that know what they expouse is evil, or at least disengenuous intentionally for political purposes....ala the current crop of Democrats running the DNC.

Bottom line for me is I spent the first four years out of high school traveling the world courtesy of the US Navy. Because of that, I saw what communism really was at a relatively early age, without the veil of "classroom" BS at your average University in the late 1970's / 1980's. I know what evil is, because I helped confront it in my own relatively small way.

People like Couric only saw what the propaganda machine of the communist believers wanted her to see. Whats sick is at this point she's had enough time to understand this....but she refuses to intellectually acknowledge it.

Why? Pretty simple in my viewpoint. Ever meet a liberal that would admit being wrong about anything, let alone a "cornerstone belief"?

Me neither.....(grin)
