"but they are about to enter panic mode and it's not going to be pretty."

The truth is ugly and generally it hurts.

One can be pro-war or anti-war, but the notion that the fundamentalism that's threatening the world is Bush-Blair Christianity is so far off the mark as to be pathological.

To quote a famous blogger:

Heh.

Indeed.

The contours of our epic clash of civilisations are clear now: Christians are a cheap laugh and in control of the Bush Administration, Jews are sinister and in control of the Bush Administration, and Muslims... whoa, best not to mention them, man. You don't want to be Islamophobic. You can sing "We're Sending You A Cluster Bomb From Jesus" because there are no "fundamentalist Christians" within 20 miles of the Birmingham Rep - or at least none that is going to be waiting for you at the stage door. "We're Sending You A Schoolgirl Bomb From Allah" might attract notice from a livelier crowd. If you're going to be provocative, it's best to do it with people who can't be provoked.

I've been waiting for someone to say this this publicly and this well.

Who knew it'd be Mark Steyn? (Ann Coulter's said similar, too.)

Yes, as Steyn has pointed out in several columns, the birth rate in Europe is well below the replacement rate. Ever increasing Muslim immigration is one of the likelier ways of solving the people shortage problem -- which means that in a generation or two, the European intellectuals who laugh at America's unsophisticated religiosity may find themselves having to adapt to life under Muslim sharia law. Wish I could see a video of that!

I hope it hasn't escaped anyones notice that throughout his column, Mark Steyn is, in effect, time and again calling attention to the fact that the play's author, Alistair Beaton, is a coward who is physically afraid to say anything that could be upsetting to Moslems.

Yes, and I think that's a widespread phenomenon. I think Christians are the culture's favorite whipping-boys because (for one reason) they know we won't respond by spalshing diseased blood around their meetings, defacing prublic property, starting riots. As should be, of course; but it does mark us off from groups that get better treatment (i.e. Muslims and Act-Up-ers).

Yes indeedy, Captain. The left has known that for decades which is why (at least partially) an adulterous "Christian" can't point a finger at an adulterous Democrat politician but an adulterous Democrat feels no hypocrisy in pointing a finger at an adulterous "Christian."

Right, as usual. If you have no moral standards, you can't be accused of violating them.

I've seen that before a few times and it was a Troll.

Thanks.
