NAJAF - The mentor of radical Shiite leader Moqtada Sadr has warned US forces against taking what he called "irrational" measures, after fierce battles left 22 Iraqis dead in this central Iraqi city, a statement said on Monday.
"We warn the Americans against any irrational action and any attempt to undermine the dignity of the Iraqis and the students of the Hawza (Shiite authority)," said Grand Ayatollah Kazem al-Husseini al-Hairi in the statement received by AFP.
He charged that Shiite religious students "have become a target of the occupation forces" and decreed a three-day mourning from Sunday when the clashes occurred.
"We hold them (US forces) responsible for the security of the people and the bloodshed, and we call on them to release the detainees," said Hairi who is based in the Iranian city of Qom.
"From the beginning we were convinced that the occupation forces did not come to Iraq to free the people from opppression. Now we have the proof of this," the statement said.
"They came to fight this nation, violate its sanctuaries and arrests its ulemas and believers ... in the name of freedom of expression and democracy," it added.
Clashes between Sadr supporters and Spanish-led coalition troops on Sunday in the holy Shiite city of Najaf left 22 dead and more than 200 wounded.

Since when have we started listening to our enemies advise? I suppose this "reporter" would of listened to Nazi propaganda during WW2 to find out the "truth"! Since our foes seem pressed to make these sorts of threats, that seems to indicate that we are hurting them badly on the feild so now they are turning to their predictable ally, the Western "news" media to try and win a propaganda victory out of their defeat.

Folks, it's beginning to look obvious that the mullahs in Iran are directly involved with what's happening with the Shias in Iraq. Unfortunately, not much the US can do about that.

It's about time to start revealing intel and building a case against Iran. I cannot believe we've let them screw around with us for this long.

Democracy means muslem clerics will have to run for office and be elected before selling dope, handing out RPG's and explosives they've been hiding under the floor boards.
The religious zealots in the middle east have been living high on the hog for quite some time now. While Saddam was in power they had lesser power in Iraq. Now they see themselves as being forced out by democracy and elections.
They will not go quietly.

You know, if Iran has been waging covert war on us, maybe it's time we reciprocated. Get the CIA to start supporting the Iranian opposition and start working on destabilizing the mullahs. Maybe if we get them occupied at home they'll quit messing around abroad?

Should've done it years ago. Any presidential candidate whose campaign slogan is "Nuke 'em all to Hell by sunrise," has got my vote.

Folks, it's beginning to look obvious that the mullahs in Iran are directly involved with what's happening with the Shias in Iraq. Unfortunately, not much the US can do about that. The U.S. can eliminate the radical clerics in Iraq.
Eliminating a few thousand Nazis in the 1920's would have eliminated the need for the Allies to kill 3,500,000 Nazi-indoctrinated German soldiers in the 1940's.
