This Sunday, the last batch of troops from The 101st Airborne Div. based at Fort Campbell will be returning from a year's deployment. We will be there to welcome them home.

Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky- Tennessee border between the towns of Hopkinsville, KY and Clarksville, TN, and is about 60 miles northwest of Nashville on I-24.

From Nashville-
From 65 Exit 86 Merge onto I-24 W via exit number 86A- on the left- toward CLARKSVILLE/LOUISVILLE.
Take the US-41-AL exit- exit number 86- toward PENNYRILE PARKWAY/FT CAMPBELL/HOPKINSVILLE.
Take the ramp toward FT. CAMPBELL.
Turn LEFT onto US-41 ALT S.
Turn RIGHT onto MONTILIO ST/MORGAN RD.
Stay straight to go onto POLK RD.
Turn RIGHT onto INDIANA AVE.
Turn LEFT. 0.1 miles
Turn SLIGHT LEFT. 0.1 miles
Turn RIGHT. 0.1 miles
Turn LEFT onto 52ND ST. 0.5 miles

52ND ST becomes ANGELS RD. 0.3 miles
End at FORT CAMPBELL KY

Added: Actually if you come from Ft. Campbell you can get of Clarksville Exit 4 on I-24 Go west? on Wilma Rudolf Blvd (Hwy 79) Then turn right on 101st Bypass and drive toward 41A North. Turn right on 41A North. Gate 4 is aproximate 4 miles from there. -- Kaslin.

At this time, they are expected to be in at 3:35 p.m. (You should be there a couple hours early, 1:30 would be good)

You can call this number that morning to be sure of the arrival time:
(270)798-6160
That's the flights info number.
It was given by the Community Relations Officer.

To get on the base, go to Gate 4 (the main gate) and get in the right lane. The Visitors Center is on the right and you have to stop in there to get the pass.
Have your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance ready....those are required to get in.

You'll have to park at the Division Parade Field and take a shuttle bus to the air field. It's recommended we get there a couple hours before the flight arrives so we all have time to get in place.

This unit is the last of the Ft. Campbell (The 101st Airborne Div.) soldiers to come back from Iraq and there should be 245 of them. A strong showing to welcome them home will sure lift their spirits. Just being back on U.S. soil will have their spirits soaring, I'm sure, but we'll all give 'em another boost. Bring your welcome home signs and flags!

Special thanks to Radu for the heads up!

I live in Clarksville and about 2 miles from Ft. Campbell. (One mile as the crow flies) I was at Ft. Campbell when the president welcomed the 101st back, but only got a couple of glimpses of the president as I was in the rear. I was happy regardless

Thanks, Kaslin I knew better than to trust mapquest directions,
however I was counting on the fact that if there were better directions, someone would share them.
Very much appreciated.

LOL, just minutes after you said that, they "pulled" the map.
(I believe it just expired, but still kind of funny)

glad to see those heros getting the red carpet (not the Red Carpet in Oak Grove)- wish I could be there...'course I'm still waiting for my welcome back from Mogadishu Dec '93...no parade, no band (band got tired of waiting and went home) no President; four day pass, two weeks block leave, then back to work in a motorpool that had not been maintained in 6 months...hoo ahh, high adventure...

Well you know who occupied the People's House during the Mogadishu attack. Nothing else should be said about it. The Red Carpet Tiny Town Rd in Oak Grove does not exist any more as I have seen not to long ago when I drove by recently on my way to the movie theater to see The Passion

actually, I never spent any time in the Red Carpet...but I really miss Campbell- I started there as a PFC, left as a CW3...if my wife would not have wanted to come to Texas to get her Masters in Library Science Information Systems- same degee Laura Bush has, I think) then I would never have retired- I'd still be a Screaming Eagle Warrant Officer living in what was in '97 the most newly renovated quarters in Warner Park- two walking/stumbling minutes from the old O Club...

Thanks for posting this, wolicy_ponk!
Dang, I wish I'd known a LOT sooner that we were allowed on Post to welcome the troops home. All this time, I'd thought only family and other folks stationed there were allowed. I'd have been up there as many times as possible to greet the troops if I'd known sooner.
Just happened to luck up on the numbers to call when we heard our local National Guard unit is coming home and will come in through Ft. Campbell.

We'll keep our eyes open for you Sunday afternoon. We're just hoping they don't have traffic too snarled up around Nashville with construction on the Interstate. ugh!
