Spain's new rulers are just taking their seats today. What an interesting welcome/test. I'm sure the Socialists will respond as they always do... weak to real threats, tough to their own people. Mr. Shoemaker has already indicated that he intends to rid the country's government of any religious content or symbolism, and has made gay 'marriage' one of his first priorities. This in one of the most religious and conservative nations on Earth.

The Spanish are probably starting to doubt their vote... but it will do them no good. They have no recall provision. In fact, it will be surprising if the Soc's give up their power next election -- or even ALLOW the next election. Unfortunately, the rest of the world's lefties won't learn from their mistake. They never do.

Thanks for that info! The Spanish made one huge mistake in electing this man!

Spain's ambassador to the UK (a marqués who is himself a member of the PSOE) resigned today to protest the new turn in Spanish foreign policy under Zapatero.

Personally, I doubt that ZP will be able to fulfill his promises to the left. He made these promises when there was no possibility that he would be elected, and basically, he could say whatever he wanted. Now that he's in charge, he's beginning to realize that this is no longer a theoretical matter.

Interesting times ahead.
