Define the New American
My barber has a subscription to The New American and about twice a month, as I sit in his shop waiting for a haircut, I pick up the latest issue and read what I consider to be some of the most in depth journalism available. Their knack for covering the major issues from angles that other sources seem to miss is refreshing.
I dont mean to imply that I am in agreement with each and every aspect of the coverage, but, at the same time, I do feel that they strive to call the shots with a certain fairness not found in most of the better known publications.
They are critical of both parties in such a way that I find myself reading with glee their opposition to Democrats and the Liberal Agenda while taking exception to what appears to be an equal dislike of the present administration.
The greatest enjoyment I receive from reading their publication comes from the articles on Americas founding fathers. I have no doubt that these pieces are well researched and factual and that they portray the leaders that shaped this great country in a light that cant be found in the nations leading universities.
Maybe the second best thing about The New American is that they seem to bare the same, if not to a greater degree, disdain of the UN as I do. Some of the most critical comments on the World Body that I have ever read were contained between the covers of the New American.
Heres hoping that others more familiar with their background and views than myself will take the time to reply to this post and help me understand something thats been bothering me for a little while now. That being; just who would they support for President?

The New American is the house organ of the dying John Birch Society, one of the world's foremost promoters of conspiracy theories.
The JBS has advanced, at different times, that the world is controlled by:
Masons
The Illuminati
The Bilderbergers
The Rockefellers
The Rothschilds
The Knights of Malta
If you read the New American long enough, you will soon be convinced that the 1969 moon walk took place in a Hollywood studio.

I agree. We have someone who drops an issue or two by the cafeteria at work from time to time.
Not at all a bad read.
My barber, being genuinely concerned about his customers reading choices, has lots of Field and Stream, Hunting, and Guns and Ammo lying around.
Those and lots of farm implement catalogs and auction notices. What can I say.

As long as you keep that firmly in mind, they can be a lot fun.
Sort of like trolling over at DU, but without the resulting temporary twitch and urge to go wash your hands.

My favorite part is a section near the back of the magazine that is called "Exercising the Right".

Comrade, what are you trying to say.
Remember Comrade, criticizing the party or its glorious leaders is viewed as a crime against the state, and may result in a term at a "reeducation camp"...
Oh, I'm sorry... I forgot. The Clintons are out of office.

I don't agree with everything they say, but they aren't all kooks, either. I have been to a couple of meetings and have a subscription to TNA and have never heard that they believe the moon landing was staged.
That being said, there, very well, may be some within the organization who believe this, I just haven't seen them.
They were also first to launch a campaign of sorts to impeach clinton in 1997 based on the evidence of his acceptance of China's bribes.

The founder James Walsh was a card-carrying crackpot.
The JBS in the '60s said that there were millions of ChiCom troops massed just over the border in Mexico waiting for the signal to invade.
And they said that President Eisenhower was a conscious agent of the international Communist conspiracy.

You better get back to Arator and his band of Bush-bashers. They need your awesome insight.

While I don't disagree that there may be some real "right-wing nuts", I just haven't seen them. All I've met are just true conservatives trying to make a difference at the grassroots level.
I have been to hear a couple of very informative speakers on subjects like the Constitution, education, the media, etc.
The founder was Robert Welch, btw.

Not because of their wit, mind you, but despite it.

No, I'm saying that you two are as foolish, [in your own ways] as the Birchers.
