US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks

The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.

"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.

Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.

"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.

The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.

A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

I have read that cats rule the world...

Cats do rule my world. They curl up on my bed at night and I have to scrunch up my knees or else they will sit on my legs all night. They cry outside the door if I dare shut them out. At least I feel important to them :)

I used up my small bottle of lavender and have to open the larger one today. I was "saving" it, but now it looks like I will have to "save up" and buy another one before I use this one is gone. Ricky should note that last time I went to the herbal store to buy some, they were sold out and I had to wait a week until they ordered more. is timing on this venture appears to be good.

A regional hotel chain in my area has a new radio ad. I was amused to hear the wording "we don't outsource our employees." Wouldn't it be great if this were to catch on with the bigger companies (like they give a rip what we think about them??).

Funny you mention that. I was just watching Ollie Norths War Stories and they are profiling the battle of Kha Sanh.

On another thread a few weeks ago I mentioned the movie that I had just seen on TV with Mel Gibson "We Were Soldiers" the story of Hal Moore in Vietnam. That was a battle!! There is a FReeper named Aloha Ronnie who was there, he has a website dedicated to that battle. It was very interesting, I haven't been able to watch too many movies about Vietnam because so many guys I went to high school with were killed or injured there, that I get too emotional. Actually a small version of the wall came through here last week and I was finally able to see it. I've never had the privilege of going to DC to see all the wonderful historical places and memorials.

OMG!!!!!! THAT makes me so angry. What a bunch of slugs, I can't think of a worse word to use. I only could read the first two sentences Cindy, that was more than I could stand.

This man's death put a face on all the deaths in this war. You don't see too much news about the names and faces of those who have died protecting our freedom and safety. I have been so sad about this man's wonderful soul leaving our earth. I dedicated our Nascar thread to him today and picked the Army car as one of my picks in the Racing League. Everytime I see Pat Tillmans face on the TV tears well up, I feel so sad for all their families.

There was a guestbook posted on one of the threads that you could sign and post a note to his family, I will try to find it.

We certainly have given the terrorists ample time to plot the demise of our military when they attempt to enter Najaf and Falluja. If our military doesn't do some drastic pre-emptive strikes, it's going to be a massacre of our troops IMHO. I'm beginning to think kids playing "Battlefield" could come up with better strategy then what is currently going on in Iraq. If the generals and major players determining the battle plan can't get the job done, they need to be replaced before we have no troops left to bring home. I say bring out the heavy artillery (including massive airstrkes) and USE IT!

Let me clarify - by major players, I meant those who are plotting the blow-by-blow battlefield tactics. I stand firmly behind President Bush! I hope he orders them to attack with no quarter given to those who are against us.

I think we have a cosmic connection. I, too, was just watching War Stories. Also had many friends lost or injured in Viet Nam. (This shows our age, LOL) As much as I love and respect President Bush, they are really trying to disavow the connection between this war and 'Nam. They need to let the Generals handle it. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I have no idea what the coalition's plan is for Fallujah or Najaf. At first the cease fire made me quite uneasy. My immediate reaction was "let's just bomb it till it's a smoking crater".

I, for the most part, have faith in Pres. Bush, V.P. Cheney, Sec. Rumsfeld and the Generals over in Iraq. In the last 3 years, more than once I have found myself saying "what are they doing/ not doing" in various situations only to be surprised a few days/weeks later when once again I thought they were excellent poker players.

Perhaps, in Fallujah and Najaf we are letting the terrorists think we are weak by calling a ceasefire. Yes, it gives them time to re-group and re-arm. It also gives us time to do the same. All the while our excellent Marine snipers are taking out up to 30 bad guys per day, per sniper.

The terrorists call in their comrades from surrounding areas. Everyone is more or less in one place. We tell them "turn in all your arms"; of course they don't. This gives us the "pass" to execute some massive air bombing raids basically taking out all the terrorists that have conveniently congregated in one town.

Al least I hope this is what the plan is. I'm just not ready to think that we have come this far to turn into PC wimps now. It just isn't consistent. It just doesn't make sense. I still think there is more of a plan to this ceasefire then we know.

I think Bush and team are trying to control the situation without spinning the rest of the country out of control. The Marines can do a surgically precise job of dealing with the terrorists without wiping out innocents. A bull in the china shop approach with bombs would set off trouble in other cities.

Love your analysis, and I think you are right on the mark.

President Bush has the remarkable ability to cause people to "misunderestimate" him. I often think this is part of his "strategery". Just when others are thinking he is an idiot, he and his wonderful advisors do something brilliant and surprising. Catching the doubters totally off guard.

I pray this is what's happening now.

Yes, I agree. That is part of the fine-line our commanders and generals must juggle. Hopefully the innocents will be allowed to leave Fallujah/Najaf. We cannot fight this battle with snipers alone. At some point, and that point seems to be a couple of days from now since that is the "turn in your weapons" deadline, we have to say "enough" and the bombing begins.

No matter what we do, we could build them new gold mosques, someone is going to complain. Bringing an end to the Fallujah/Najaf situation undoubtedly will cause problems in other cities but this is a war. And it is the birth of a "new" country. There are going to be problems, uprisings and troubles no matter how we handle it, IMO.
