US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks

The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.

"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.

Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.

"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.

The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.

A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

Good question Ma. Not trying to be a bummer, but I don't see this war ending anytime soon. Not in our lifetimes. This is a struggle that our children will be inheriting from us, so I hope we do the very best we can.

Our enemies will keep trying and eventually, they'll get it right again and more innocent people will die. Our government will not do what it takes to end this war soon because to end it, we'll need to wipe out an entire generation (including women and children). A generation that was/is raised to hate the west. A generation that believes that anything not islam must be destroyed. I'm referring to the PLO and Arafat here, but anywhere that teaches kids to hate anything not islam will perpetuate violence and terrorism in the future.

The killing of women and children is nothing less than barbaric and the mere thought of it is very repugnant to me, but to our enemies, it’s okay. We here reports of how these vermin hide behind women and children. It’s disgusting and it shows how truly evil these muslims really are.

As Americans, we hold ourselves to a higher standard of civilization. We don’t go around killing simply because others have different beliefs. We sure don’t go around killing women and children. Our muslim enemies have no qualms with killing women, children, or the elderly. That is making this war so much harder to fight and that’s why this war will not be over anytime soon.

Re- your feeling that we have "subtley shifted into Orange Alert mode over these last few days". I agree. I would suspect that around April 9-10, when city police departments were informed of imminent but nonspecific threats, the cities went to orange.

Four suspected terrorists were arrested yesterday in Stockholm and Malmoe. More arrests are expected.

The more the merrier. Suggest Stockholm and Malmoe receive a big pat on the back for the superb job they are doing. It only takes a few of them to create horror and grief for the other world citizens. Pre-emptive control of the situation is much better than post-operative attempts at capture.

Mubarak: Arabs Hate U.S. More Than Ever

PARIS (Reuters) - Arabs in the Middle East hate the United States more than ever following the invasion of Iraq and Israel's assassination of two Hamas leaders, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in comments published Tuesday.
Mubarak, who visited the United States last week, told French newspaper Le Monde that Washington's actions had caused despair, frustration and a sense of injustice in the Arab world.

"Today there is hatred of the Americans like never before in the region," he said in an interview given during a stay in France, where he met President Jacques Chirac Monday.
