This has been posted here before, but I would like to post more from her brief quote from Osama's 1996 "declaration of war against the west"--

Few days ago the news agencies had reported that the Defence Secretary of the Crusading Americans had said that "the explosion at Riyadh and Al-Khobar had taught him one lesson: that is not to withdraw when attacked by coward terrorists".

We say to the Defence Secretary that his talk can induce a grieving mother to laughter! and shows the fears that had enshrined you all. Where was this false courage of yours when the explosion in Beirut took place on 1983 AD (1403 A.H). You were turned into scattered bits and pieces at that time; 241 mainly marines solders were killed. And where was this courage of yours when two explosions made you to leave Aden in less than twenty four hours!

But your most disgraceful case was in Somalia; where- after vigorous propaganda about the power of the USA and its post cold war leadership of the new world order- you moved tens of thousands of international force, including twenty eight thousands American solders into Somalia. However, when tens of your solders were killed in minor battles and one American Pilot was dragged in the streets of Mogadishu you left the area carrying disappointment, humiliation, defeat and your dead with you. Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge , but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear. It was a pleasure for the "heart" of every Muslim and a remedy to the "chests" of believing nations to see you defeated in the three Islamic cities of Beirut , Aden and Mogadishu.

I say to Secretary of Defence: The sons of the land of the two Holy Places had come out to fight against the Russian in Afghanistan, the Serb in Bosnia-Herzegovina and today they are fighting in Chechenia and -by the Permission of Allah- they have been made victorious over your partner, the Russians. By the command of Allah, they are also fighting in Tajakistan.

Reagan caved in to Democrat caterwauling in an election year and withdrew our troops
___________

It sounds as though Ann is suggesting that Reagan share part of the blame for 911. Interesting that she believes that Reagan played politics over principle in withdrawing the troops. That is not typically how the Gipper is portrayed, especially here at FR.

True enough. I would add two additional points:

1. Carter caved to the Ayatollahs big time. Don't forget, he refused to allow the US's long-time ally, the Shah, into the US for necessary medical treatment because he didn't want to inflame the world against us. Obviously, that worked out well.

2. During the Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and, to a lesser extent, Bush II administrations, Israel has been held back by the US administration from fighting against terror. Since Reagan made Sharon let Arafat leave Beirut in 1983, the message has been that Israel ("the tail of the snake" to Arab countries) can be attacked, while it cannot defend itself lest the Arab "street" become offended. More recently that has changed, as Israel has been permitted to reoccupy the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The fact that Arafat is alive in Ramallah today is, in my opinion, further appeasement by the US of Islamic terror.

I forgot that there were also several democrats who were even against the war in Afghanistan. If I recall, it was Joe Biden who accused us of being "high-tech bullies" as we were chasing down OBL and his murderous thugs. Now, we are to believe that these people would've supported a preemptive war in Afghanistan prior to 9/11, when many of them even opposed this action "after" 9/11? What a joke these people are.

I'm sorry (*dons flame-proof coat*)but there are some things here which can't be allowed to go unchallenged:

"The day of Reagan's inauguration, the hostages were released."

Well that was a coincidence wasn't it? So definitely no deal between Reagan's staffers and the Mullah's out of the Iran/Contra stuff to defer release of the hostages until Carter's demise there then?

"Ten days later, Reagan bombed Libya, despite our dear ally France refusing the use of their airspace. Americans bombed Gadhafi's residence, killing his daughter, and dropped a bomb on the French Embassy "by mistake."

As any fule kno Mitterand covertly allowed the F111's to route through French airspace. It is called deniability folks!

"Reagan also stoked a long, bloody war between heinous regimes in Iran and Iraq. All this was while winning a final victory over Soviet totalitarianism"

A million dead. Now there's a credential.

"In December 1988, a passenger jet, Pan Am Flight 103, was bombed over Lockerbie, Scotland, by Muslim extremists.

President-elect George Bush claimed he would continue Reagan's policy of retaliating against terrorism, but did not. Without Reagan to gin her up, even Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher went wobbly, saying there would be no revenge for the bombing."

Well, at the time I suppose Damascus would have been the target as it was widely assumed in intelligence circles that the Lockerbie perps were a Syrian-based Palestinian faction financed by Iran. Then, oh, hang on we need Syria onside for GWI. Erm so it was the Libyans. And now Gaddafy is back in the fold. Go figure.

Now, I'm a British conservative, unswerving in my support for the war on terror and the liberation of Iraq but when I read garbage like this I just despair. Middle Eastern politics, and the influence of the US on them really is more complicated than the delectable Miss Coulter appears to understand or want to understand.
