[history]
Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, at a recent GOP event, told diners that state Sen. Daniel Mongiardo, his likely opponent in the November election, looks like one of Saddam Hussein's sons.
Yesterday, his campaign said it was a joke and apologized.

Bunning is playing nicely into the hands of his Democrat enemies. Former Rep. John Cooksey, R-LA, ruined his career by a similar comment about Moslem turbans in 2002.

Jim Bunning was more than a "pitcher". This former Tiger threw no-hitters in both leagues. He was one of the premier starting pitchers in his day (late 50's-60's).
To: Theodore R.
Bunning seems to either not be very bright politically or just not very bright.

Demcrats have no sense of humor and they will not accept apologies for any sort of remark that offends them.
On the other hand, if a Dem calls a Republican "the most corrupt SOB I've ever seen. This man is a drunken wife beater who steals taxpayers money and spends it on hookers, drugs and gambling."
Well, if anyone takes offense, the Dem will get a free pass as soon as he says "I was joking".

Demcrats have no sense of humor and they will not accept apologies for any sort of remark that offends them. They aren't even really offended, but pretending to be offended puts the other guy on the defensive.
And the DEMO(N)cRAT _DOES_ look like Uday.

But Republicans as "crooks, theives, liars, nincompoops, chickens, deserters, (did I mention liars?), etc." is just fine.

"Jim Bunning needs to come clean, show the people of Kentucky the tape, and let them decide whether or not that's funny. If this guy is really concerned that it was offensive, why insist that the tape be release and playedover and over and over
"Kentucky has a lot of serious issues to deal with, and the last thing we need to be talking about are allegations of bigotry, let alone the possibility of a cover-up.
If Mongiardo wants to talk about serious issues, why is his spokesman wasting time with this?

Hey, Mongiardo! It's called a brush-back pitch. Just pick yourself up, quit whining, and get back in the box. It ain't softball.

No Democrat EVER deserves an apology!!!
To: Former Proud Canadian
They did state he is in the Hall of Fame. I think that gets across the point that he was more than just a run-of-the-mill pitcher.

Saddam's son huh? Bit of a stretch...

The only way Bunning can obtain "forgiveness" is to get out of his reelection race and endorse the Democrat that he mercilessly slandered!!!! At least that would be the liberal view of this.
