I have my girlfriend watching that show now. I have managed to convert her from hugging trees into watching Fox News religiously. Yes but how is your girlfriend planning to vote in the 2004 election?!

"Just curious, where does PBS news rate? Watched a couple of times but it boils my blood." PBS usually gets an * for their rating -- meaning less than one-half of one per cent of homes viewing.
Nobody watches. But everybody pays.

I will only let her vote if for sure I know she will vote for Bush. If not, then I am going to do my best to make sure she does not vote ;-)

That's really amazing. You'd think they would care enough about ratings to do something about it -- like stop being so blatantly biased that people are turned off.
This gives me hope that people "get it".

But I can't figure out why Britt's show isn't in the top 3. I never miss it because he's the best. I agree, but he comes on too early to garner as many viewers as Shep, O'Reilly, and H&C.

Hmmmm. All the major cable news networks saw significant declines in viewership in Q1 -- the heart of the democratic primary season.
Just loving it!

IIRC Nielson changed the way they dole out their boxes sometime last year. People who are not glued to the TV all day every day get a box now, as well as people with TiVo/game consoles (apparently if it looked too difficult, Neilson would not install a box at the house). Here is an article about the networks squealing like the stuck little piggies they are:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/992929/posts (Sub Title is: The day may finally be near when digital technology eviscerates a $60 billion ad business. How will the networks survive?) [you may also visit my blog:
http://christyrambles.blogspot.com/2003_10_01_christyrambles_archive.html#106501655004137313 for some choice quotes about disruptive technology].
So, while there may be a cause for celebration in regards to these numbers, I think the larger point is that the networks (cable & broadcast) have had their numbers fudged by Nielson, and now it is starting to become clear how much people are watching TV. Nielson, while a big deal because of the money that is made through the ratings/advertising racket, is still statistics - which have been skewed in favor of the nets.

If you want any proof that Fox News is the news of choice just look at the Dish TV packaging. You have to pay EXTRA for fox news in the 120 channel lineup. CNN is on the el-cheapo basic lineup. Can't do that if there was no demand.
To: NotQuiteCricket
It would be interesting to see the gender breakdown of the ratings. You just know someone at CNN is saying
"not liberal enough" as the cause for low ratings.
PMSNBC is close to the statistical 0 audience. Phil Donahue's ratings were so low they could not be measured and were assigned the lowest statistically possible rating.
(s) Perhaps they can also breakdown by sexual preference too. (/s)
Remember the news story which said men 25-40 were not watching as much TV?
