30 degrees would be above average in the Persian Gulf. My other favorite was getting shot off the bow and getting a "hot dog red" call before I made it to ten miles.

This is really a dangerous and scary thought and near genius of the terrorist warped mindset Seems to me that it would be quite easy for a lowly ensign in the armory to set off a 250 or 500 pounder in the racks. The chain reaction would be unstoppable and would even affect the nukes onboard (My guess is Probably around 25 devices plus reactors)
Which should not detonate but would in effect create a huge dirty bomb also if she were in port (Japan) the damage would be significant to the surrounding civilian population and her task force. I have not been able to determine her location from my web searches today but she could be in the Indian ocean, Persian gulf, Japanese waters or even visiting Korea Can you imagine the political consequences if she was to detonate in a foreign port? Especially a Japanese port? With the Japanese defense forces recently deployed in Iraq it would seem to be a politically advantageous target. And the greatest advantage would be breaking the coalition up further ie: Spain. Loose lips sink ships. To bad this cat is even out of the bag .

(The threats against aircraft carriers not new!)

"a suicide mini-sub packed with explosives?"
They better be pedalling pretty fast...I think our carriers can cruise at 40+ knots. Kinda fast for a mini-sub.

You know, all the towelheads would need is for one highly motivated, Harpoon-armed P-3 crew to defect. We ALWAYS found the carrier! I wonder what their per diem rates are??? Maybe if they could get a rogue LA Class??? Green flare anyone. (Heavy sarcasm to you that don't dig the jive.)
