It was my understanding that the Kitty Hawk is slated to retire as soon as the GWB comes into service. If the nuke issue is a problem, there is still the JFK.
True, but the JFK is almost as old as the Kittyhawk.
Maybe the Japs will relent, or we may find another couuntry to homeport a nuke out of. That would be tough though, when you consider the size of the shipyard needed to support a carrier and her battlegroup, plus the airwing. Not to mention the dependants.
Only place I can think of is.... Subic Bay!

With all due respect. I emphatically disagree. Have you ever worked anywhere near nukes?

I say there ARE countries threatening US.
Lets remember that the State Department has had a list of Countries that Sponsor Terrorism. If we are attacked by Terrorist then it is legal and logical to go after those Countries.
Remember the Cuban Missile Crisis? President Kennedy said that if the U.S. was hit by missiles from Cuba, the United States would react as if those missiles had been launched from the U.S.S.R. THIS is the rational we should have used after 911 and not those stupid WMD arguments. We should have said:
Hummm Terrorist hit us. Ok Dick give me that Laptop over there. Now lets see, I'm gonna open up the Wup Ass Browser.
Good. Now, move the cursor to the States Sponsoring Terrorists List. Okay Goood. Now Cut and Past the Name of any one of the Top Three (Iran, Syria, Iraq) ok Iran, yeah. Cut and Paste Iran onto the DELETE COUNTRY ICON.
Ok now give me that 1800 number for the Iranian Ayatollah. "Hey Alibububutt or whateva your stinking name is, you have 36 hours to eeeee vac uuuuu ate TAY RAN!"
Move the cursor to DELETE COUNTRY ICON, scroll down to the "PUFF IN 36 HOURS" button
and push it.

You missed my point entirely, and I thought I had made myself clear. Again, I agree with you that we're not anywhere near being in an all-out war against regimes that sponsor and harbor terrorists (although we do seem to be taking it one step at a time......Afghanistan, Iraq.....), but we
are in an all-out war against (certain) terrorist organizations themselves. There's a distinction. It would be pretty though go after Al Qaeda any harder than we're now doing.
If we did as you suggested (with the SSBN's), we'd be in the nation-destruction biz, not the terrorist org destruction biz. .....and it very well may come to that one day.

The intelligence agencies and military have known about and planned for supercavitating wepaons for many years. My fictional rendition was just a variation on the theme.

I wish I could find a model of my ship (USS PELELIU) that scale. An old buddy told me that he saw one on Boston once, but I can't find it. The only ones I found were 1/700 (TINY -about 15") scale.

I've seen websites where they make their models from scratch to almost that scale. I can't remember the site, but I am sure a google search is in order.

we'd be in the nation-destruction biz, not the terrorist org destruction bizThose nations support, hide, make excuses for, and approve of the terrorists.
They are the enemy too.
Sadly the same can be said of our home grown commieRAT party.

I don't believe a single word posted on NEIN-COMPOOPS. But, as an FYI, maybe the jihadists are confusing the Kittyhawk with the USS Wasp. A few days ago I read that 2000 US Marines from the Wasp group are headed to Afghanistan. The Wasp is a carrier and I assume it is moving to a position off the Pakistani coast.

We're in agreement. .....and eventually - hopefully - they'll all be taken care of.
I got into an argument with a Freeper the other day about what our reponse should be if the Jihadis succeed in obtaining and detonating a few nukes in U.S. cities (and killing many hundreds of thousands of Americans in the process). My contention was that we'd have little alternative but to completely wipe out every terrorist-sponsoring regime on earth with nukes. ......and the epicenter of their "religious" fanaticism, Mecca and Medina. He strongly disagreed), and said that all we could really do in response to such an attack is go after the terrorist orgs themselves, which we're already doing.

Nothing in the air or under the sea is gonna get close with the E-2s and ASW assets fully deployed.
Surface threats likewise would be dispatched very quickly.
The only thing that would worry me is from within. A disgruntled muslim recruited by alQaeda is always possible. I just hope that after the muslim threw the grenades into the tent in Iraq, all those aboard our ships were screened psychologically for any of these kind of tendencies!
At any rate, it would take quite a weapon to destroy a carrier from within...but with all that fuel, someone (or one person and his cohorts) with evil on their mind could create quite the mayhem.
