WASHINGTON, March 28 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Hundreds of grassroots leaders representing National People's Action (NPA) are paying a visit to the home of President Bush (news - web sites)'s Senior Policy Advisor Karl Rove on Sunday, March 28, because he refused to meet with them to discuss the rights of immigrant youth.
NPA and immigrant rights' leaders want the White House to support the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act). It would grant access to instate tuition for children of immigrants whose families have been in the county at least five years and paid taxes for three. The DREAM Act has 62 co-sponsors and the White House is standing in the way of it being brought to a vote this year.
NPA Leaders plan to arrive at Rove's house, located at 4925 Weaver Terrace, N.W., in Washington around 4 p.m. "We paid our way to come to Washington, D.C., to talk to Rove, and he wouldn't listen," said Tomasa Fonseca, an educator from Marshalltown, Iowa. "So we came to his house to ask him to support the dreams of our youth."
It is estimated that 50,000 to 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school in the United States each year. Upon graduation these youth cannot work legally, nor can they qualify for in-state tuition at universities because they aren't considered residents.
Recently, the Bush administration came out in support of a guest worker plan, which would allow immigrant workers temporary residency for a maximum of six years. NPA leaders believe that Bush's plan will divide hard working immigrant families. The DREAM Act, on the other hand, is an example of positive immigration reform that would give immigrant youth the opportunity to realize the American Dream by becoming workers, tax payers and positive community leaders.
"We are here today to send a strong message to the Bush administration," said Emira Palacios, NPA Co-Chairperson. "We are telling them that if they want the Hispanic vote, they must give us the DREAM Act."
National People's Action is a 33-year-old multi-racial/ethnic, inter-generational non-partisan coalition of hundreds of local community organizations that volunteer their time to make communities throughout the United States safer, healthier and more stable environments.
What do those in DC expect?
He's just getting a taste of it. Too bad they didn't jump through his windows, eat his food, raid his kitchen, eat all the food, take of all his medications out of the bathroom, and trash his yard on the way out......
It's funny how some here think they should be arrested when they have been invading/trespassing on our borders and our country by the *millions* for a couple decades now.
Uh, by the way the government panders too, medicates, feeds, gives away jobs, and encourages this invasion of millions, I'd say the politicos in DC are getting a very small taste of what they really deserve.
Do you have any idea who in this country supports this epic invasion of millions? It's the socialist, open border communist, and this includes most of congress and the federal government that are doing their best to undermine our borders, and our sovereignty. It's creating *nationwide* fraud, chaos, shutting down our hospitals, and choking off our social services and on and on and on. Not to mention the huge security problems or the *tons* of drugs being brought in routinely.
True immigrants are too busy tyrying to make a living to go mess with Karl Rove. .
You obviously don't have the first clue. In California alone it's costing tax payers over $700,000,000.00 a year *just* to jail illegal aliens that have come here illegally and committed *more* crimes. The landscape is littered with American victims of illegal alien crime. Hello?
They might be illegal but I will bet anything that they believe in the American dream more than all these commies and Kerry supporters ever will
Huh? We are a nation of laws for crying out loud. What are you doing on a conservative forum? You have NO idea what this invasion is doing to this country.
I think misspelled "Karl" in your headline!
If these were real immigrants, they would be mowing his lawn right now ;-)
Don't fool myself? LOL! The root of this entire problem is the federal government. Not some little socialist group brought in a beat up bus. These little peons are not causing this titanic invasion to happen. It's a federally approved invasion. Best get yourself up to speed.
Don't forget the Ford Foundation.
The presumptuous lying. The arrogant demand to be literally placed ahead of citizens. They should be glad they recieved a superior K-12 education and use it to help improve their countries of origin.
National Peoples Action also wants discounted home loans, special considerations from law enforcement, and government to do something about the crowded and littered environments they live in. And lots and lots of yobs.
Several months ago they pulled this "mob intimidation" tactic on the director of Housing & Urban Development, and also attempted to intimidate Dan Stein of Federation of American Immigration Reform.
This "Progressive" group is closely supported by the Embassies of Mexico and Ecuador.
