You've been here for a year, and still don't know how FR works?

This is a REALLY lame post. I'll bet you don't reply to it....(taunt, taunt)

Thank you for noticing my one-year anniversary!
I'm glad that you are happy with the high gas prices, but I'm not, and what are -YOU- going to do about it?

I will be the first one to admit that I do not have the patience to deal with the general public.

I have literally worked from wellhead (Middle East to Mexico, Latin and South America) completely upstream (or downstream depending on your perspective, including tankers, terminals, pipelines and refineries) to service station. I have touched every facet of production to market except for exploration. For the life of me I dare not try to explain to people where that gallon of self-serve comes from.

Sometimes when I am in a gaming mood I will ask people where their electricity comes from. If they answer the light switch on the wall I know their cognitive level is not that far above autonomic brain stem function.

Idiots all!! It is not the oil companies, there has not been a refinery built in the US since 1979, (in Garyville, LA by Marathon Oil Co., whom I am retired from) and it is next to impossible to even consider getting another one permitted. (Not near me you all yell)

The feds, states, cities and the enviro nazis currently demand dozens & dozens of different blends customized to suit every whim. There is not the refining capacity nor the pipelines to satisfy all these nutcase scenarios.

Refineries can only produce gasoline or fuel oil, but do not have the capacity to do both. The enviros have decimated the US oil industry, it fell apart in the late 80's. No new exploration or drilling is allowed, every attempt is thwarted by the ones who now scream the loudest.

The percentage of imported refined products continues to rise, just wait until we depend on OPEC for your gasoline & fuel oil. You think we have problems now, you ain't seen nothing yet.

The public demands no nuke power generation, they demand the coal fired plants be shut down, they demand that all power generation be from clean burning fuels (read natural gas) then the same freakos scream when the power generators use up the natural gas in competition with home owners for their heat. Guess what, there is X amount of NG, not XY & G amounts, there is not enough for both.

So make up your stupid minds what you want before running off on some Chicken Little fiasco crapola about punishing the oil companies, for you don't have a bloody clue as to the facts.

$1.90 per gallon in Sacramento CA

I know. Here's Kerry in Sacramento this evening. So expensive he had to ride a bike!

Eliminating many of the bogus 'special formulations' requirements would do a great deal to reduce fuel prices. Unfortunately, by stifling competition these formulation requirements allow the formation of local oligopolies in the supply chain.

Regulation, and lack of direct profits from downstream (refineries) are the reason gas prices are so bad.

It's not supply or demand, it's external weird forces in this case.

Well, one thing I will NOT do is pass around some egregiously silly pyramid letter.

I do, however, refer you to PA engineer's reply above and Ursus Arctos Horribilus' remarks as well.

Offshore drilling, Alaskan drilling, a dramatic decrease in suffocating regulatory (read: unelected arbitrary lethal) control of refineries--these were the solutions ten years ago, and remain the solutions today.

You can try the silly chain letter thingie, however, if you like.

Since you are a Freeper, I would expect more from you than passing around a chain letter written by an 8 year old.

There are tremendous forces at work that determine the price of gas--I can think of about 4 off the top of my head, not limited to: 1) Environmental restrictions that don't let oil companies drill at home 2) Different gasoline formulations for each part of the country that environmentalists have forced on refineries (you didn't think that all gas is the same did you) 3) OPEC nations looking to influence elections (do a little search on who is in control of Venezuela and that should tell you a lot) 4) No new refineries built in the last 20 years--once again thanks to our environmental extremist friends.

"Big Oil" consists of some of the hardest working people that you will ever meet--from the roughnecks that work out on oil platforms to the immigrants that own the local Shell station. The oil industry is one of the most tightly controlled industries in the country. Perhaps all of the regulations that control the oil are causing the "high" prices that you so abhor. Do you realize that you pay more for a 12 draft beer at the local pub than you do for a GALLON of gas that powers your automobile? Perhaps you should go after "Big Beer" too.

All I know is that I was renting a house down on the Outer Banks of NC for $3K this summer. But instead of $60 in gas to get there it's gonna cost me about $100 so I'm going to have to cancel the vacation because the gas prices are too high and going to ruin my vacation.

Boycott gas prices!! Are you nuts! Thank God, our gas companies are capitalistic, not government controlled. A lot of people need to take Economics 101. I find this post surprising here at FR and the responses. I can't believe how socialistic ideas become mainstream.

Very Very Very Basic Econ 101 On Price Controls:

When the government regulates a commodity, it does a very poor job of controlling supply. The government always, always and again always believe you can do more with less. This "I know what is better for you than you do" attitude decreases supply. With decreased supply, you demand more. With more demand, price increases. Vicious cycle. Again public outcry brings government to the rescue. its solution is to start rationing. With rationing, you still have less gas, more cost, and long gas lines around every corner. How do I know this. Doesn't anybody remember one term Jimmy Carter and his Misery Index, double inflation, and long lines of cars which made it to easy to read 1472 pages of "War and Peace."

JOIN THE RESISTANCE!!!!!

i hear we are going to get close to $54,371 a gallon by the summer.

Want wine prices o come down? Boycott Chateau Petrus, or any winery with that snooty "Chateau" word in it. That'll do it! Concentrate your efforts, and the Chateaus will be brought to their knees!!!!
