March 28, 2004 -- IF elected president, will John Kerry offer the Arabs a better deal? This is the question raised in the Arab media these days. Many different answers are given, but a consensus seems to be emerging that a Kerry presidency will lift what the Arab elite regards as its worst nightmare during the presidency of George W Bush.

Bush Meets with Moroccan King Mohammed VI in Washington

Calling Morocco "a great friend" and steadfast supporter of the war on
terrorism, Bush announced that his administration is seeking a Free
Trade Agreement with Morocco.

Wasn't there a report that the leader of the Madrid bombing was a Morrocan?

Yep. There are terrorist elements in Morocco, but (IIRC) Dale Dye said terrorists
were a pretty rare breed in Morocco. (But that doesn't mean they can't be deadly!).

Additionally, I think my news-scanning saw something about a Jordanian being
recently arrested for being prominent in the Madrid bombing as well.

I wasn't saying Morocco was totally "on the side of the angels", just that they
seem to be intent of making their way into being part of the civilized world.
This is not a perfect process...and who knows how long it will take.

"Now we know the reason behind OPEC's cut in production."

===

I haven't thought of that, but I am afraid you are right.

European tariffs, OPEC's cut in producation, to cause US gas prices to go up, all designed to hurt Bush's re-election chances.

Will the American people allow foreign countries to meddle in our elections? If Kerry really has been in touch with foreign leaders and is conspiring against his own country and the sitting president, it sounds like death-penalty treason to me.

That's an excellent point. Perhaps Bush's people should demand Kerry reveal his "foreign" supporters and float the notion that Kerry has negotiated oil supplies as leverage.

The pan-Arab daily Asharq Alawsat, for example, claimed that Kerry's recent promise to end America's dependence on Saudi oil is merely an electoral tactic. The paper also claimed that Kerry was introduced to the Saudi ambassador by Edward Kennedy, the senior Massachusetts senator, in 1990. The two "worked hard" to organize an exhibition in Boston to introduce "Saudi culture and civilization" to Americans.

The Saudi media also cite "official documents" that testify to the "close friendship" Kerry ostensibly developed with Riyadh for more than a decade.

Kennedy's "Arab connection" is even older. In 1976, he toured several Arab capitals - including Baghdad, where he met Saddam Hussein, then Vice-President of Iraq. "Kennedy understands the Arabs because he has visited the region and developed relations with Arab leaders," says a Saudi official. "As the senior figure of the Democratic Party, Kennedy will help put a Kerry administration on the right track with regard to relations with the Arabs."

Well, this can't be true! Democrats say this war is all about oil. We only went to war so President Bush could get control of Iraqi oil. President Bush is in the pocket of all the oil Barons and cares nothing for the Iraqi people.

The Bushes have been catering to the Saudi Kings and Princes for years. Now this, Teddie & Johnny Saudi suck-ups? Surely not.

I've been saying this for some time now. There is a (to my mind) childish belief the increased tempo of "senseless" attacks in Iraq can be explained by the scheduled turn over of sovreignty. Only partly right :

The main purpose of the increasing terrorism is to affect our elections,by piling bodybags so high, the public will demand an unconditional, immediate pull out of US troops : something John Kerry will gladly promise, and,if elected, eagerly carry out-regardless of the consequences.

I didn't know there was an Al Jazeera newspaper

It comes on a roll and usually runs to about 750 to 1000 pages.
