Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) will have minor outpatient surgery on his right shoulder next week that may keep him off the campaign trail for up to four days.
Spokesman David Wade said the Massachusetts senator aggravated an old injury to a tendon from the sub-scapularis muscle -- which helps move the shoulder -- earlier this year when he braced himself against an abrupt stop on a bus tour in Iowa during the race for the Democratic nomination.
"He will have outpatient surgery on his shoulder on Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital," Wade said. "It's a quick procedure that usually lasts less than an hour."
The injury did not bother Kerry during a recent weeklong skiing and snowboarding vacation in Idaho nor does it prevent him from occasionally tossing a football and baseball with reporters and staff.
Wade said Kerry, 60, was not in pain, except when he made a certain movement such as "picking up a baby on the rope line."
However, he wanted to repair the tear to prevent further injury and "decided it would be better just to get it fixed now," Wade added.
Kerry was expected to wear a sling for a few days and spend time working at home in Boston before returning to the campaign trail.

The bus must have been travelling at a high rate of speed because, IMHO, it would take a lot of force to tear this muscle by means other than "an abrupt stop on a bus tour"..... MORE FORCE, perhaps like in a SKIING accident, hmmmm? In fairness, they did indicate that in aggravated a previous injury. But I wonder if Hillary is recommending an anesthesiologist to him.
You know, whatever else you can say about the Clintons, they learn from past experience. They probably understand that when a new candidate shows up after a long campaign, the new candidate is at the top of their popularity. Witness the senate races where replacement candidates won after the people they replaced were trailing in the race.
Imagine a hard fought campaign that ran until late September or early October. Kerry is behind Bush, but both have been hammering each other for months. Kerry's scandalous past has finally caught up with him. Then for some reason (health, death, scandal, arrest, whatever) he drops out of the race. The new candidate would step in, be above the fray, would be too late in the game to debate, and would be granted a honeymoon period by the press and voters until election day. No debates, no hard questions, no hard review of the record or past votes. And a cake walk into the Whitehouse. (And with CFR, even private citizens couldn't buy TV time to attack her during that period).
I'm not suggesting they have this planned or even that they could pull it off. But I assure you, this has occurred to the Clintons.

Better put some ICE on it, John!

Yes...and in fact I had heard about the shoulder surgery weeks ago before his vacation...was wndering THEN when the vacation came up why not the surgery...they planned the hit from Clarke and decided to use the shorter term surgery for the back up, since Condi is out with her rebukes, he had to have this purple heart realted shoulder surgery as the ace in the hole and it has panned out well...and I am not surprised he will use the "injury" as something related to Viet Nam...he is a bona fide schmuck that grovels for idenity and an issue...

Boy, You're Quick! Botox cover story!
That was my thought, too...
Of course, it is also true that getting him of the campaign trail is powerful motive for the Demodogs, too.

Not to mention it didn't seem to bother him in the Dem unity rally where he and Dean and Bill and Jimmah et. al were all raiding their clasped hands to the sky.

Or maybe something other than botox. Someone should ask Kerry to reveal everything that he's having done and why.

He must have incurred the injury when he fell down snowboarding. (Instant karma) Hence the cancellation of the wind surfing trip. Easy to pick up a little nip and tuck during recovery from surgery as well.
To: sarasota
I still wonder what else Kerry could be having done, maybe not just the shoulder and botox.
I want someone to ask so that there's a definitive answer on the record.
Especially if the answer should prove to be a lie.
To: mewzilla
Where's he having this surgery? Where is the press? Why can't we get details? Maybe a visit to DU will reveal more info? (Too early in the morning for me to tackle this however.)
To: sarasota
Considering how the press was all over Dick Cheney about his ticker, I'm surprised at the press's lack of curiosity...NOT.

Based on the photo: here is a page from the Clintoon playbook. Substitute guitar for saxaphone and Kerry's there. Trying so hard to be one of the "people".
To: HarryCaul
Sling=diversion from botox. Perhaps a new hairdo as well with bangs?
To: NotJustAnotherPrettyFace
Clintoon was "weeping". The old boy knew how to turn on the tears at will. What a putz.

By some of the pictures I've seen of Kerry in closeup, I'd say he's already trying those makeup tricks.

Chronic rectal-cranial inversion.

Those of us who've been posting on this forum have been waiting for years to figure out if Clinton's probable STD history will catch up with him in some form.

The Democrats should all get worried when the Clintons call in Dr. Fahmy Malek!
