"We've found that hardware/software costs are lower with .NET, and our programmer productivity has increased significantly."

My friends who develop software for a living tell me that .NET is by far the best programming environment.

This one in particular was awful...

I don't think so. I haven't heard a credible argument yet for why these numbers aren't legitimate.

...it ... assumed all asp pages use a .NET framework.

Reference??

Then you believe that Cold Fusion is the top web technolgy?

I'm just thankful I don't have to use .NET or any other Microsoft thing.

If the label says Microsoft, it's low-quality dog crap.

I believe that there's a vast world out there... using a multitude of technologies that you've never even considered in your little cubicle, Harr.

This report shows Cold Fusion as the top web technology. Do you believe that is accurate?

Sheesh, I should remember to start FR before my 4th drink and not after the 8th. "How would that count in this story"?

Have a few more drinks and you won't care.

The report doesn't say Cold Fusion is the top web technology. It reports on a survey/comparison between four - Cold Fusion, Java, .NET, and Lotus Notes.

If I had to venture a guess as to the top server-side scripting technology, I'd probably guess perl/cgi, but it wasn't covered in this survey either.

Do I believe Cold Fusion outnumbers Java? Sure, why not? Cold Fusion is geared more for low-end websites, so it shouldn't be surprising.

The good news (or in your case, the bad news) is the phenomenal growth rate of .NET versus Java.

As true as Cold Fusion being the number one web choice in Fortune 1000 companies. Which is this survey's actual result. Intersting how that wasn't the headline, tho, isn't it?

It's either all true, or none of it is.

And since I know cold fusion websites aren't the number-one web solution for those companies -- we have solid evidence this survey is worthless.

Only something to soothe the obviously tender egos of .net developers. Especially since if this *were* a real study and real new report, the real big headline would be:

Cold Fusion Number One Choice for Websites in Fortune 1000 Companies!

Now *that* would be news.

But, since this is just MS propaganda, we have the headline we have.

The survey on the graph wasn't billed as a fortune 1000 company survey. However, 83 of the fortune 1000 companies were mentioned specifically as having ASP.NET. Understand the difference?

Yeah, .net is catching jsp's fast, and will soon be the number 2 web solution, behind Cold Fusion.

In your mind.

Cold Fusion is number one!

Meanwhile, in the real world . . .

According to your study, Cold Fusion is as big as jsp and asp.net put together! Wow! If I follow your lead, then clearly Cold Fusion is the proper choice for my web development.

Ha!

Whoa, Harr. I was asking about your reading comprehension problem that led to your mistatement:

Cold Fusion Number One Choice for Websites in Fortune 1000 Companies!

Cat got your tongue?

Yeah, .net is catching jsp's fast, and will soon be the number 2 web solution...

Geezuz, Harr, your reading skills are unbearable... According to the study, .NET already passed JSP.

According to your study, Cold Fusion is as big as jsp and asp.net put together!

So you think netcraft is lying? I doubt it. But if you think they are, why not refute them with facts rather than your shrill, narrow opinions??

So you think netcraft is lying?

I think that Cold Fusion being #1 is clear and present proof that this survey is dead wrong, to anyone who knows what they're looking at.

And that the more people see this headline the better for me! I want *all* my competitors to use .net.

Java Servlets - local references to .jhtml, .jsp, .gsp file extensions, or a local url starting "/servlets".

Incase you dont know there are many other java servlette extensions, including (for example) .do, so this study compleatly ignores all of these other extensions.

So you are ignoring a large segment of Java servlettes..

Agreed... Cold Fusion is the crappiest piece of dog software out there... but they were the first to put SOMETHING out, and so now have a lot of legacy crap systems running it. Hardly though is it the most deployed technology out there... not even close.

In my experience most older shops have one or two Cold Fusion apps left running. Maybe -- maybe 5% of the apps are Cold Fusion.

This one point alone proves exactly how accurate and credible this report is. According to their study methods, Cold Fusion comes out on top, a clearly false result.

LMAO! And, if the label says Apple, practically nobody uses it.

Read for comprehension. The article is talking about the Fortune 1000, not the rest-of-the-planet.
