Heads up, there has been some kind of explosion at RDU airport in Raleigh, just got a call from someone who works near the airport. Will post more in a second.

A plane has crashed near Raleigh Durham International Airport, catching on fire and sending a huge plume of smoke into the air visible from several miles away.
At least one witness described it as a military jet, possibly an F-18 from the Navy, and the pilot reportedly has ejected.

I work 2 miles from RDU...I've never seen an F-18 come in there. I use Aviation parkway to get on I-40.
Strange...will check WRAL.

There is an Air National Guard unit at RDU that have Apache's that are currently deployed in Afghanistan. Don't know about F-18s though.
