Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - In an emotionally charged meeting Tuesday, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors voted to prohibit the sale of .50-caliber "sniper" rifles in unincorporated areas of the county.

By a 4-0 vote, the board approved the restriction. Supervisor Millie Greenberg of Danville was absent, as she spent the afternoon in Sacramento to testify on traffic safety.

"Some called the video chilling and sobering."

Be sure to catch another classic: 'Triumph of the Will' - a chilling video about unrestricted government power.

Depending on the wording of the statute this could also include a 12 ga. with a rifled slug barrell.

Leftist, Socialist, Marxist and Communist types are afraid of guns for the same reason that a kid who has raided the cookie jar one too many times and LIED about it is nervously eyeing the paddle...

For good reason.

So very stupid!! A good thing these whaco types are not hyp to the world of guns. Some of the short fatty 50's have been near or on par to the long .50 MG cartridge for years, and they work through a standard 98 type action with little or no modification said action.

I know of people whom turn out solid brass 50 cal slugs on a lathe, others hard cast 750 grain linotype boolits (not a mis-spell) which belch out of a short fatty 24 inch bbl. at 2300 FPS

So, ban the .50 MG rifles, but then we know you are after all guns. Want to drive the entire thing below ground into a criminal enterpise? Keep it up antis, and you can add another to your long list of failures.

"Lorrain Taylor of Hayward, whose two sons were murdered in Oakland in 2000, urged the supervisors to enact the ban, "for the overall good of the community.""

So if her children were killed by a drunk driver, she would have us ban alcohol and the private ownership of automobiles?

Well you have to admit, the publik is so much safer now, due to the elimination of all the .50 cal sniper rifle gun crimes. Oh, wait.....I haven't heard of one.

Idiots.

El Sobrante resident Jim Mellander questioned the board's rationale for enacting the ban, calling it a smokescreen for political gain.

There is no rationale for this act. Gun control is an emotionally driven issue, devoid of logic.

Banning the sale in one county will, of course, prevent a criminal intent on using such a weapon from bringing it from another of the 3,000 + counties across the country [eyes rolling backward into socket]. What a bunch of f'ing morons. Aside from the fact that it won't work, and that no .50s have been used in crimes, he has failed to ban far more lethal things: cigarettes, booze and cars. When they do that, I'll believe that they're sincerely devoted to the safety of their constituents. Until then, they are just a bunch of anti-constitutional, anti-gun, emotion-driven blissninnies.
