In addition to Richard Clarke's praise of President Bush in Clarke's own resignation letter, the former counterterror czar contradicts himself, while speaking on tape to reporters at a White House briefing in 2002, and actually defends the Bush administration.
He details how the new administration changed existing plans on how to deal with al-Qaida and increased covert operations funding "five-fold."
Clarke told reporters, including Fox News' Jim Angle, who posted a transcript of the tape on foxnews.com, back in 2002:
- "There was no plan on al Qaida that was passed from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration."
- The Bush administration was briefed on the existing plans and strategy regarding Afghanistan, among other things, that the Clinton administration had in place.
- The Bush administration decided to "increase CIA resources, for example, for covert action, five-fold, to go after al Qaida."
- Once the administration was fully in place, in March or April - because of the election debacle - the new administration "then changed the strategy from one of rollback with al Qaida over the course [of] five years, which it had been, to a new strategy that called for the rapid elimination of al Qaida."
The 9/11 commision hearings have unfortunately become the 'beat witnesses over the head with Richard Clarke's book' hearings, but now at least this new evidence suggests that Mr. Clarke may simply be wrong in suggesting that President Bush did nothing about al-Qaida before 9/11.
It is also unfortunate that some of the things Clarke says in his book about the good things the Clinton and Bush administrations did to avert terror attacks probably won't be spoken of in the hearings.

Facts can be so inconvenient, especially for those whom are honesty challenged

when all else fails you play the race card but when race is
slaping you in the face you ignore it. Clark's hatred is really pointing C.Rice. Rice is not only a woman that out
ranks him but black woman. Clark's revange points at Pres.
Bush but the hatred is pointing at Rice. Rice worked and
studied very hard to get where she is at. She didn't lie
on her back to get the job. Clark's seems have have play a
roll in allowing 9/11.
Remember Florida, remember how the Clintons and the demorats tried to keep Bush from moving into the White
House. Bush and Dick Chaney had to open an office else where
in order to get their cabinet together.
The Clintons and the Demorats knew of the attack an they were going to do what ever it took to keep Bush from stopping it and I think that was Clarks job to allow the
attack to go forward. Clinton,Gore,Greenspan and others left
the country for 9/11. The news media and Hillary played up
Chelsea's leving the country as well. A clip of Chelsea that
could be used if all the plan had been carried out.
I think the news media knew their was going to be an attack
on this country. Of course the news media would keep it quiet, anything for a story. WWII the press was making plenty of money, selling plenty of papers but when things
were quiet sales went down, so the press would create their
own wars and report on things that were not happening but
it sold papers. The news media traveled the world with the
Clintons and the covered up every act of treason commited
by the Clinton and their administration. Clinton I think
informed the press before he left the country.
Eight years of party life and now we have a President that
wants to vacation here in our country, now we have a President that is willing to protect this country and the
news media can't stand it. Pres.Bush grounded all flights and stopped any more attacks from going forward. All America
should be gratefull including the news media.
It's time for the news media to come forward and expose the
Clintons. HIllary a danger to this country now sits in our
Senate. I think the news media needs to report on HIllary's
listening tours in and around the Buffalo, Ny area. She was
getting money from terrorist groups. Hillary and Chelsea can
travel amoung the terrorist groups and are perfectly safe but yet thounsands of innocent people are killed and no where around those terrorist.
Does HIllary honestly think she is going to over throw this government.
The miss use of tax dollars in order to win an election.
Clark and all those that are behind him in attacking our
President need to be held accountable. Clarks book needs to
be stopped and he needs to pay for the hearing.
I think 9/11 could have been stopped if Trent Lott would
have done his job and had Clinton impeached. Lott gave Dashale veto power to stop any wittneses from testifing
against Clinton. If Clinton was removed from office the attacks on this country would never of happened because
some more responsible would have been in the white house
doing the job of the people. I wonder if Monica Luwinsky
sleeps at night knowing she played a roll in helping to allow the attacks on this country where thousands have died.
