Clarke strikes me as a Dick Cheney "wannabe." He tries to give the appearance of gravitas but the smug outsider who only knew how to bully people to get what he wanted just keeps shining through.

I'd have a lot more respect for him, and find him more tolerable and no doubt more believable, if he wasn't so snide, and if he hadn't written his book for his own financial and ego aggrandizement.

In other words, if he'd been an honest man, he'd have told the truth in this committee for the soul purpose of doing the right thing to help us know where balls were dropped and how to prevent it in the future, and then let the chips fall where they may.

But the truth isn't his motivation here, or in his book. Revenge against Bush is his primary motivator. It's amazing to watch.

Was he 'playing politics' when testifying to comittees?

Is he 'playing politics' now being Debeers buddy?

Truth be told, he DOES have a credibility problem.

..and Bob Kerry should have one if he attacks FNC rather than concentrate on Clarke's words.

has kerry refered to Clarke's book? If he has, then perhaps he has a credibility problem.

There is a reason Fox leads.

His publisher should sue for fraud.

It would be interesting to know if Clarke wrote this book on his own, or was put up to it by others (no names need be mentioned).

You can see where this is going when the audience breaks out in applause after Clarke says [his conflicting statements] are a matter of politics rather than morality, after Kerrey has applied the Memogate defense re the Fox transcript. This is all so sickening. This is one of those days when I think Kerry could actually get in. Ironically, this snake Clarke's testimony may ultimately be instrumental in making the US more vulnerable to terrorist threats, by bamboozling voters into rejecting the candidate who actually takes terrorism seriously.

This is a war on terror. Not just a war against those who committed 9/11.

That Iraq harbored terrorists, including Al Qaeda terrorists, is beyond dispute.

They did more than harbor terrorists. They funded them. They agreed to work with them to destroy America. They actively sought AQ support. They provided an airplane for them to practice hijacking OUR airplanes.

I understand you wish that was not so. I understand that does not sit well with your worldview. But you are letting your opinions get in the way of the facts.

Now Clarke is trying to say he was "playing politics" and he was covering up for President Bush

I smell a RAT! This is the mantra that the Demonrats are pushing in their campaign against Bush - that Bush is not telling the truth, they're a bunch of crooks and liars ... blah blah blah ...

I caught the part where Clarke admitted that he is friends with one of Kerry's cronies and co-teaches a class at Harvard and Georgetown - two extremely liberal colleges. This guy is a wolf in sheeps clothing. He has some questionable ties to the left.

That I don't know. But I can say it seemed that Clarke came out smelling like a rose (for those that look at the world through rose colored glasses).

I was very disappointed (so far).

"But the truth isn't his motivation here, or in his book. Revenge against Bush is his primary motivator."

Revenge is part of it, as is the book. Personally, I think the guy is angling for a job in a Kerry administration (God forbid) in order to get his power back so he can go on living out his apparent fantasy that he is the savior of the World from terrorism. He he sought the spotlight in his former positions, he sought the spotlight with his book, he is in the spotlight with the committee, and he seeks it in the future as Kerry's National Security Ad visor (or Secretary of Homeland Security, or even Secretary of State).

Kerrey just slammed FNC for showing the transcripts of the 2002 Clarke interview, saying that they exhibited a violation of trust from a ''background interview.''

So, I guess the question of whether Clarke was lying then to reporters or lying now to the public isn't relevant to the issue of ''trust''.

No, that is you Peach. You continue to spread disinformation aka lies that link Saddam to 9/11.

I will continue to oppose your campaign of treachery.
