'Internationalist' Kerry - Bragging of foreign support doesn't win many votes in America ~ John Fund
Opinion Journal ^ | March 22, 2004 | John Fund

Because polls show most voters personally like President Bush, Democrats have decided they must depict him as a liar or worse by zinging him on issues ranging from Iraq to Medicare. On the other hand, polls show that 41% of voters still have no clear opinion of John Kerry. That is why Republicans are ridiculing Kerry as an unprincipled waffler so that the first impression many voters get of him will be negative. So far the GOP satire seems to be outscoring the Democrats' claims of untrustworthiness.

Didn't you just love it when the newly elected socialist prime minister of Spain declared that he was a Kerry suporter? :)

Kerry hasn't taken a big enough hit for this yet either. It needs to be revisited time and again throughout the campaign.

Last week, the New York Sun interviewed many French political observers who noted that Mr. Kerry is the kind of American that the French have always appreciated--someone who speaks foreign languages and is urbane and sophisticated.

Did anyone tell the French that Kerry's paternal grandparents were German Jewish and they changed the family name after immigrating to America?

Oh well, it won't matter, he's a socialist and he's not a Texan that got rid of Chirac's best friend, Saddam.

I understand that the F in John F. Kerry stands for Frondeur - a member of a French political party, traitors to the crown, who wanted to appease some Spanish invadors a few hundred years ago.

Fronde is French for slingshot, which the original mob that would later become the Frondeurs used to hurl stones at the residence windows of Mazarin. Mazarin was the chief advisor to Anne, the mother of Louis XIV, who ascended to the throne when he was four years old.

See further The Fronde & the English Civil War, which concludes the discussion of the Fronde with: "Frondeur came to mean a troublemaker or backbiter acting for personal or partisan motives."

A French party of appeasing backbiting partisan traitors - the fit is just too good.

I just watched his testimony to the senate foreign relations committee on the alleged "atrocities" in Vietnam. He was a lying, smarmy, pompous opportunist then and I see no signs of any redemptive character improvement.

That testimony is going to destroy his presidential aspirations, ketchup heiress wife or not.

IMO, as more Dems who voted for him in the primaries really begin to learn about their chosen candidate, I think a lot of them will start looking for an alternative. If we believe that Hillary has too much baggage to be elected to national office, Kerry has even more and is looking more UNelectable all the time.

So if he's trying to distance himself from foreign approval, why does Teddy Kennedy make the point that the CIA knows that Kerry has met with foreign leaders.

Yes, it might prove that Kerry isn't a liar, but it also proves that he does have foreign "behind the scenes" backing.
