All of the focus on Gil Cedillo and Arnold Schwarzenegger needs some intelligence. There are not '12 Republicans' ready to vote for a deal.

let me get this straight, you are taking Gil's word over the Governor's right now? While Governor Schwarzenegger shouldn't necessarily comment on his intent to sign or veto pending legislation, he ought to refute Cedillo's comments if they are untrue.
I ask you...where is the legislation? Is it in the Assembly? Is it in the State Senate?
In the State Senate. No. Yes.
WHAT are we debating, discussing, compromising with/on...what is 'it'?

Too many Californians think like you do. What do you suggest we do?
The majority of Californians voted for prop 187, which would have solved this problem.
The federal government, in the form of an activist judge, told us we couldn't have 187 and had to give benefits to illegals. The executive branch has already demonstrated (for decades) that they have no interest in enforcing their own law, and are not going to mount a credible effort to deport them. The federal government will not allow California to enforce the law by deporting illegals, and won't even deport them for us if we hunt them down & deposit them on their doorstep.
OK, philetus, what do we do next to get rid of them?
The only solution I can see is that since the feds absolutely won't let us get rid of them, the next best thing is to mitigate the damage. Thank God we have Arnold and have at least a chance of preventing them from voting. If we had a RAT governor they would right this minute be both driving and voting.
To: CurlyDave
Given stringent identification provisions and the precaution of special insurance requirements, I see no reason why illegals cannot be issued drivers Licenses overprinted with "Not US Citizen" or some such. Would make it easier for immigration officals to identify them for a quick trip to the nearest border.

If we just expanded on that a little and issued all non-citizens licenses which said "not US Citizen" I think it would be successful.
That way the license is not declaring them illegal, just non-voting. There are lots of legal non-citizens. Remember they will not go get a document which declares them to be illegal.

Eric's a Godsend in this blighted, brain-dead community. You can hear him online 5-9 PST M-F at www.ktkz.com, if you're not in the area. His program birthed the recall, and he was the only local talkshow host who stayed involved in it.
I enjoy him daily on the way to work, and often call in. He's a great guy.
Pity about the scorched-earthers. First best thing is never to be wrong. Second-best is to admit it and learn when you are.
Worst is never to admit it, and never to learn.

My, how things change!
Remember how the scorched-earthers suddenly adopted The LA Times as "The Paper of Record," during their campaign for Bustamante?
Now suddenly Cedillo becomes the fifth Gospel.
Sad, the lengths to which people will go just to avoid admitting a mistake.

Fair question, so I did some research. Here's what I found out concerning the deportation of illegals.
If the INS won't do it's job, the states have absolutly NO RECOURSE.
Even if an illegal is arrested for a felony, the state cannot deport the illegal.
I thought CA could enforce the law if the feds refused, but nooo.
The states have to ask The Federal gov. for PERMISSION to deport criminals.
Your right Dave, we might as well give up . We are fighting a losing battle if the laws are not changed.

(2)The Dems can erode Arnold's popularity by calling him a liar after talks breakdown. Cedillo can say, "We had a deal and Arnold lied, he was pushed by the conservative Republicans." This would damage Arnold and Bush's standing in the state. Can't Schwarzenegger circumvent this by coming out and making clear statements about what he's going to do. Then the won't be able to make these claims.

Stop making sense.
To: ElkGroveDan
Of course the Arn-droids will deny this. They can deny it all day long.
The fact is when Sch. decides it time to twist arms to get his way there will be enough spineless members of the Assembly and Senate GOP Caucus to give Cedillo the votes he needs.

And so far Schwarzenegger refuses to say anything about this.
To me, that makes him just as suspect as Cedillo.

Mexican aliens in the US can drive with their own Mexican-issued driver's licenses. In fact, California accepts any foreign-issued DL as proof of behind-the-wheel competency. This is not about licensing drivers, but about legitimizing illegal aliens.
To: nickcarraway
He could, but that is not how you build bridges for the future. Arnold does need to be bi-partisan...remember...this is California. The "Belly of the Beast is majority Dems. He will need them on some votes in the future.
We need to help him and support him when he hasn't done anything to deserve our bickering.
To: Eric Hogue 1380 KTKZ
Is it bickering to tell politicians how we feel? If politicians don't hear what constiuents want, how will they know? Political consultants watch these things, and if they think people are concerned about the DL's (for example) why would they not sign such a bill?
To: nickcarraway
What makes you think the Democrats, after siding with Arnold in repealing SB60 - because they knew it would easily be reversed with a referendum - want to represent a similar scrap of legislation and have it run to the November ballot for another 'vote by the people' defeat for the Dems?
Believe me, 'AS' knows that 70% of the people in California don't want this legilsation to pass. Arnold is not a dumb guy, he has been very successful to this point. Give him some credit and some support!
To: Eric Hogue 1380 KTKZ
I support him and hope for the best. I just want to make sure he gets the full story. By the way, have you ever seen Perky vs. DMV? (1986, CA State Supreme Court) A DL is basically citizenship.
To: nickcarraway
I understand that there is GREAT concern surrounding the DL and this is one of the many...but...what do you do when 14 other states already have such? Plus, Bush has supported "Guest Worker" pgm...
If AS signs or doesn't sign, the left may opt for the courtroom...they have finding that the DL is legal in 14 other states - I know, state's rights, but this is the day and the age of judicial law making.
Just an FYI for shock value...thanks for the dialogue!
To: Eric Hogue 1380 KTKZ
Does getting a driver's license make them a citizen in those other states? I honestly don't know.
To: Eric Hogue 1380 KTKZ
you said "If more had voted for tom, and we would have SB60!"
With all due respect.. for a 'talk show host', you are extremely uninformed.
The referendum on sb60 had enough signatures. the ONLY reason it didnt have to go on the ballot is because schwarzenegger and cedillo saw that it had enough sigs, and therefore the democrats repealed the very legislation they had just passed,;
if the referendum had gone on the ballot, that would have been a clear proof of how the populace feels. and would have been harder to pass 'licenses for illegals' again. so regardless of who won the governors' race,. sb60 was dead.
also, in the new sb1160, in case you didnt know.. it will be immune from any referendum, since it will have an emergency clause. Arnold and cedillo have already both publicly agreed to this 'emergency clause' aspect of the pending bill. so it is not 'speculation' on my part. it is fact.
so as you stated in your post, "We can just have another referendum". wrong again.
Also, I suggest you read up on arnold and the stances he takes on issues. Read his past statements. I don't know if you claim to be 'conservative', but to try to compare arnold and mcclintock as if they are similar choices, is very innaccurate.
if you don't mind unlimited abortion, stem cell research, cloning, homosexual marriage, gun control, and open borders and rewarding illegal behavior; (all the things your hero embraces) why the heck are you even a republican?
For that matter, any supposed 'Christian' who supports a candidate who takes such stances, needs either find another church, a different pastor/teacher, and needs to throw out everything they "think" the know about Christianity and start over from scratch.

Since this argument is so OLD...here we go again!
It was impossible for Tom to win - he could NOT WIN! He gained nearly 15% of the vote if I remember. If there was no Arnold, then Bustamante or Davis would be governor today. The only reason that Tom played so well during the campaign was due to the favoritism he enjoyed by the liberal media of this state. So, to put this to a close - Tom is a great man, but he didn't win the state controllers seat and he didn't (couldn't) win the recall race - the nearly $1 million dollars of Indian Tribe money - that's gambling money - helped his case as well, the anti-Arnold candidate.
Considering, Arnold has NOT been motivated by the CCPOA nor the Indian Tribes becasue he has not been supported by the Tribe money, something that Tom would not be able to say today if he were governor. (On the CCPOA, Tom is as pure as any politician in the state!)
On SB60, it would have been repealed by the initiative, right. But Arnold repealed it when he took over as governor - he did so BECAUSE of his BIG victory and initiative power - once again, Tom could not win, so he didn't have the power to force this through the legislature.
Now we have SB1160...Ron Prince and the Prop 187 people just FAILED to get enough signatures to pass 187 and an anti-SB1160 onto the ballot for this November...people were not motivated to sing the petition. The passion is not there, because there is NO SB1160 to consider!
Do you think Arnold is going to pass a piece of law that he just repealed in October? Do you think he is going to pass a law that will face an initiative in the future, to be repealed? Consider what you are saying...he is not stupid.
Yes, there are conversations, but there is no deal!!!! I'm telling you there is no deal!!! Arnold has set the bar too high for Cedillo and Nunez to support SB1160, too high for the Dems liking.
Stop reciting the mantra of the left and Gil Cedillo - if we have any chance in this state, we conservatives, we must understand about to be pragmatic toward the center to finally arrive at conservative/moral issues. You cannot change this liberal, immoral state by voting in one person! It takes a trend and a path, not a political Messiah!
Look - right now Arnold is killing the Democrats. He is revealing how liberal they are, so liberal that they do not represent the party itself! Give him some support and stop the single issue rants, especially when there is no issue to rant about!
Now, congrats to Tom - he is a great politcian for his district, but he has not and cannot win a statewide election...the state is not ready for him...yet...hang on, his best chance might be his next statewide run, we'll see.
Consider the abortion issue over the past 10-15 years, look how the populous has changed. Thsi country is more pro-life than it was just 10 years ago, because of pragmatic leadership with (first) Gingrich and now Bush. We must have control to handle the controversial issue of morality - control means WINS, a majority of WINS so we have the numbers to vote past the liberals tactics and control.
Thanks for the dialogue and have a good day and...stop attacking my walk with the Lord, who are you to be spiritual judge and jury over my relationship with Jesus...I forgive you!
