Kareem maybe "invented" the skyhook, but he certainly did not invent the dunk, and Magic rarely finished off fast breaks. Magic "perfected" the no-look pass.

Dr. J invented flight, Jordan perfected it.

Larry Legend, btw, was the complete package.

No.

Wilt "The Big Dipper" Chamberlain was the first great practitioner of what was then called the "stuff" shot.

Actually, there are two varieties of dunks. One is the inside, down-low power stuff. The other is the high-flying slam dunk. Here is the lineage of the four greatest at each type:

Power stuff: Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Artis Gilmore, Shaquille O'Neal

Flying dunk: Connie Hawkins, Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, Michael Jordan

On the power stuff, Abdul-Jabbar was different from the other three, in that he was skinny and more graceful from outside--the sky-hook was his signature shot. Chamberlain, Gilmore, and O'Neal were the three strongest men ever to play the game and were purely inside players.

Have to disagree with that.

The "slam dunk" had been around for a long long time before Jabbar ever stepped on a court. Wilt Chamberlain, in the late 50's, used to run and jump from the free throw line and dunk his FREE THROWS! Of course, they soon outlawed that. Elgin Baylor used the dunk as a weapon in the 50's too. If anybody ever saw Connie Hawkins in his prime during the 60's you know that he was the best dunker ever and the precursor to the Michael Jordan/Julius Erving type of artistic dunkers. Magic Johnson was a very average dunker and really didn't dunk all that much.

Actually, it was George Mikan who invented it, and Chamberlain enhanced it, I don't know if it will ever be perfected...
