Fort Collins residents rallied Saturday as part of a global day of protest, joining cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, London and Rome in speaking out against U.S. military action in Iraq.

More than 150 people gathered at United Campus Ministry, 629 S. Howes St., for a rally marking the one-year anniversary of the war in Iraq. They then marched down College Avenue to Old Town Square, where a eulogy was read for those who have died in the war. Marchers carried a coffin draped with the American flag, tombstones bearing the names of American and Iraqi casualties and signs bearing slogans such as "An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind" and "Life is always a gift," drawing honks and thumbs-up from passing motorists.

You beat me to it, I was just getting ready to post the same article.

Our rally was a success. If we had not been there, the lefties would have gotten ALL the press. Thanks for doing such a great job talking to the reporter. See you April 17th to welcome our troops home.

Our local Army Reserve Unit has just left Iraq for Kuwait. I have a friend in the unit. God Bless them all.

The most we could get here on the east coast was that there were competing rallies.

Just heard it one time..guess they feel that's as balanced as they want to be.

I'm looking forward to the April 17th celebration.

I think the article was fairly balanced. The reporter appeared, during my discussion with her, to be making a good faith effort to research the story despite what also appeared to be her identification with the anti-war marchers. I'm pleased with her story.

Since there were far more anti-war protesters than there were of us, it makes sense that they had most of the press. You're quite right - if we had not been there, the leftists would have gotten the entire coverage.

Therefore, my stated goal to the reporter: we demonstrated to show that there was an alternative voice to the anti-war crowd - was accomplished and fulfilled by the press itself. A nice convergence of efforts.

More than 150 people gathered ...

Hummm...150 people, eh? "City takes to streets for day of mourning"...hum...Very interesting.

Oh, and FYI: Ft Collins, CO population is just a tad under 119,000 people.

Congratulations! NY Post described 100,000 antiwar freaks (not nearly that many, I think) and 50 "Bush supporters" (probably not nearly that many). These were people from Protest Warrior, the soft-porn conservatives.

I can't believe this crap. The headline:

City takes to streets for day of mourning (Ft. Collins, Colorado)

Fort Collins has a population of about 110,000, including a ton of college students at Colorado State. So saying that the "city" took to the streets would indicate that a very large percentage of the city participated. Instead, we find this out:

More than 150 people gathered at United Campus Ministry

That's about one-tenth of one percent. But the "city" showed up.

And then YOU are given this treatment:

Robert Teesdale, one of the few counter-protesters at Saturday's rally

This idiot must be trying to pull together some work samples for an interview with the New York Times.

Well, the Fort Collins Coloradoan has to seek drama somewhere....

We did spoil the fun of the leftists, though. The traffic was so busy honking for us that there were several near-accidents at the intersection. The mood of the population passing through was quite apparent to all.

But you have to understand in the mind of the enlightened journalist the 150 that showed up are the city that counts.

Overdramatic, yes. And they weren't "mourning" either. It was a sad display of unpatriotic spinelessness.

Fort Collins has a population of about 110,000, including a ton of college students at Colorado State. So saying that the "city" took to the streets would indicate that a very large percentage of the city participated. Instead, we find this out: More than 150 people gathered at United Campus Ministry. Amusing, isn't it? 0.1% is "the city". Oh, but lest we forget... their ideology is "pure", no? Therefore they must, per Leftist dogma, represent the great silenced and oppressed masses of the suffering proletariat.

And then YOU are given this treatment: Robert Teesdale, one of the few counter-protesters at Saturday's rally This idiot must be trying to pull together some work samples for an interview with the New York Times.

Huh? Clarify?

I remember back in fall of 2000 when Clinton came to a fundraiser in Denver, back when I was living in Colorado - I went to protest and the TRT showed up in force as well. A reporter for the Rocky Mountain News interviewed me, and then asked what the group in the blue t-shirts was called. I managed not to laugh. And she went over and interviewed some of you guys - and still got the TRT's name wrong - she called you the "Tyrannical Response Team".

Huh? Clarify?

150 protesters on her side represents the entire city. But she used the negative adjective "few" for the numbers in your group.

The reporter was fairly young. I don't think she did too badly. It would have been a temptation to ignore our rally in favor of focusing the story entirely on the anti-justice crowd.

I'm coming out to Fort Collins for my graduate studies in August. Glad to see they can only round up 150 wackos. BTW, I saw some pictures of your rally on another thread last night - looks like your side did a great job.

I don't think she did too badly.

Her bias is subtle but telling. She basically took a news piece and made it into an Op-Ed.
