Wasn't Spencer Tracy the fisherman in "Captains Courageous"? The one who dies at the end? The idea of Spencer Tracy playing a Portugese dory fisherman has always puzzled me a little bit. Freddie Bartholemew as Harvey seems like he would be a bit young. Lionel Barrymore played Disko Troop, the captain. I haven't seen the movie, but it looks like it leaves out one of the most affecting and ambiguous characters in the novel -- Pennsylvania Pratt, who was Haskins or McVitty when Uncle Salters forgot. He was a Moravian preacher who was driven insane and lost his memory when his entire family was drowned in the Johnstown Flood, and Uncle Salters took him in and looked after him. An accident to another fishing boat causes him to regain his memory and pray for the life of the captain's son - the moment when his countenance is changed from that of a fool to an old, wise man, and he says, "I am - I was a minister of the Gospel. Leave him to me!" just makes the hair stand up on my neck.
It's a really good book. Anybody who hasn't read it can read it here without leaving the comfort of your chair.

Again, we must remember the day that Ronald Reagan was was shot by a deranged idiot.
Remember the tape. Shots were fired. Andrew McCarthy (a Secret Service agent assigned to protect the president) was standing between the gunman and the president. The president was hit once, as McCarthy was turning and reaching for his weapon. He turned, full body to the assassin, putting himself in direct harms way to protect the president, and he knew exactly what he was doing. That is what he was trained for, to take a bullet for our president and save his life. According to all accounts, and there were many, he did save the president. That shot that Andy McCarthy took would have hit Ronald Reagan and possibly have killed him.
Notice too, that the limo door was open and the president was being pushed into the car when Andy took the bullet. Notice also, that Andy didn't go down until the limo was moving (still protecting his president).
This is the type of man that John Kerry would call a son of a bitch! You are a SORRY excuse for a human being John Kerry! I think that YOU are the son of a bitch, and a coward to boot!

I figure I have a keeper, maybe even till November. No kidding. It's a good one. However, as they pick this guy apart 'till then, I wouldn't be surprised if other nuggets don't become available. Let's stay tuned.

That recalls a line from Imus yesterday. Kerry, playing to the male, southern NASCAR crowd (and getting it all wrong): "Who amongst us does not love NASCAR?" Kerry really said that? Sheesh!
Kerry whined about Bush going to Daytona; I'd love to see Kerry go to a NASCAR race. Something tells me he wouldn't get quite the reception W did!

And yet Kerry goes snowboarding (and looking like such a dork). I'm waiting to see pictures of his spill.

In short, he voted to kill every military appropriation for the development and deployment of every weapons system since 1988, including the Battle armor for our troops. The Bradley was developed in the 70s-80s. The F-15 and F/A-18 have been around nearly that long.

When GW Bush fell off the Segue (although he caught himself very neatly and landed on his feet) the pictures were all over everywhere within like five minutes, it seemed.
Come on, news media guys, you don't want us to think you're shielding "your man", do you? Do you? Hmmmmm?

BTW I thought the al gore famous kiss of tipper was so creepy,,,he practically forced his tongue on her,,it looked terrible to me. I will be watching Kerry.

He's been pretty careful to keep his wife out of the public eye in recent days, maybe because of what his people are reading on this forum. Here on FR, there were the pictures after one of the primary dates where he tried to kiss her, and she was obviously NOT enjoying it, and several people noticed when he practically dislocated her shoulder earlier.
Keep an eye out, but I wouldn't guarantee he'll slip up in public like that again.

I just caught the end of the discussion on Imus. I think that may have been some of Imus' nonsense, but I think the line is really funny. No NASCAR fan would ever utter those words.

I thought this deserved a bump about now.

This type of event doesn't matter because it won't hit the mainstream media.
In this world, Perception is reality.
Whatever is hammered on in the mainstream media is what will be percieved as reality in the public.
If it isn't hammered on in the mainstream media, then the public won't even take notice of it.
Therefore this is a non event. The public doesn't even care
