[history]
A professor who claimed she was targeted in a hate crime that stirred student protests at the Claremont colleges is suspected of staging the vandalism herself, police said Wednesday.
Kerri F. Dunn's car was vandalized and covered with racist, anti-Semitic and sexist epithets on March 9, leading faculty to cancel classes and students to stage rallies the following day.

Hehe. I'd say Mel will an unindicted co-conspirator but the true blame rests with... ta-daaaa! ... George Bush! Afterall, he did nothing to prevent it.

Two comments:
1) Claremont is home of the "Jesus Seminar" which was formed to create a scholarly refutation of Christian notions about the "historical" Jesus. This would agrees with the assessment that Claremont is a very liberal institution.
2) Evidently the psycho-prof was disturbed by the absence of anti-Semitic hate crime following The Passion of the Christ, so she decided to gen some up.
OTH, she might be innocent.

Kerri F. Dunn doesn't sound particularly Jewish.. She told the LA Times she was a former Catholic in the process of converting to Judaism. I guess she thought if she trashing her own car with an anti-Semitic epithet she might be accepted sooner.

Police will forward their findings to the district attorney's office Thursday, Van Horn said. One charge that could result, he said, is a misdemeanor count of filing a false police report. People convicted of hate crimes go to jail for years. How come she only faces a possible misdemeanor?
To: DentsRun
It's an outrage! If that's all they can get her on, the law needs to be changed, NOW. And I mean, right this second. The Left seems to be able to change a law overnight, so why can't we?

Perhaps a scam to hit up her insurance company for a new paint job?

LOL! Stranger things have happened....

"People convicted of hate crimes go to jail for years. How come she only faces a possible misdemeanor?"Read it again. Van Horn said one charge that could result. One. That doesn't exclude other charges, including federal. The FBI were brought in and are presumably still involved.

I'm sure she has another car - a much nicer one.

Me too. But it's an election year. That makes me nervous.

Claremont is a very conservative college You're wrong. I've lived in Claremont most of my life and still do.
All of the Claremont colleges are merrily skipping down the liberal, PC trail to uber-fascism.
Maybe they used to be conservative but those days are long gone.

Good point, EAS! Martha paid the price; let Kerri Dunn do the same!

Read it again. Van Horn said one charge that could result. One. That doesn't exclude other charges, including federal. The FBI were brought in and are presumably still involved. Why was the FBI brought in? What federal charges might apply? Lying to the FBI? They got Martha Steward for lying to the cops. Why not Kerri Dunn?

The closest club fed is Lompoc, which is a nice one. Erlichmann liked it.
To: Bonaparte
From the looks of that paint work, she'll never get a job with Earl Scheib.

Why was the FBI brought in? What federal charges might apply? Federal hate crimes laws.

Well, when I went to Pitzer, CMC was known as the most conservative of the 5 colleges. Whether it's still true or not, I don't know.
