Relative to the price of a basket of other commodities such as copper, gold, steel, etc, oil prices are pretty much constant.

Yes, I believe you will find information to support that idea among the links.

You know those wire twist ties that are used to help seal the plastic wrap bag for a fresh loaf of bread in the food store?

I've begun to notice that some are twisted to the right while others are twisted to the left, and over the last year or so, there are more and more twisted to the left.

Is that a moral issue?

Is that an election issue?

And, did the wire tie do it?

Thank you.

LOOKING AHEAD: OIL (By William F. Buckley Jr. )

Experimental Hybrid Cars Get Up to 250 Mpg -- Politicians and automakers say a car that can both reduce greenhouse gases and free America from its reliance on foreign oil is years or even decades away. Ron Gremban says such a car is parked in his garage.

Oil majors attracted by the scent of non-conventional oil

With real estate market strong, soaring oil prices inflict little pain -- Wishful thinking in this cheery piece. We've cut back on eating out etc. since gas has shot up and our electric bill was $100 higher than we've ever paid before. Wait till the heating bills hit in another couple of months.

 Fuel Shortages Coming?

The movie was called "Oil Storm" and was on FX last June (part was filmed here in Austin). Basic premise is that a major hurricane hits the New Orleans area Labor Day weekend, 2005. Because fo the resulting damage, oil prices spike upward and gas goes to $3+ per gallon. Because of the damage, oil imports are diverted to the Port of Houston. Because of the tight shipping lanes and increased traffic, there is an accident between tankers thats damages the port. Terrorists hit Saudi oil sites, we send in the military to protect the oil infrastructure, all the while oil prices continue to climb. At it's worst, the price per gallon is over $8 and the economy is in crisis. People freeze to death because they can't heat their homes, riots break out, we get in a bidding war with China over Russian oil supplies, etc.

U.S. Appears to Have Avoided Massive Oil Supply Problems -- What is wrong with this picture: vast areas of the US are off limits to drilling known reserves, yet the Times frets we "depend" on foreign oil. This is illustrative of the type of thinking that spends millions on school buses to achieve racial balance in schools, yet cannot seem to use them to evacuate the parents of those students when necessary to save lives. It is thinking that has been dangerously corroded by liberal ideology.
