[history]
March 17, 2004 -- France is investigating terrorist threats from a shadowy Muslim group vowing to retaliate for a national ban on wearing headscarves in schools, officials said yesterday.
France's interior ministry said it was taking seriously a letter, sent to several newspapers, that vowed "to plunge France into terror and remorse and spill blood outside its frontiers."

Reading this thread was a much instructive lesson in human nature...
To the Freepers that refused to rejoice at the prospect of a bombs targeting innocent civilians, and to whom Islamic terrorism is an insult to everything Mankind ever stood for, many thanks for your kind words. I can't find the words to tell you how I appreciate this communion of feelings, that reminds me of a fateful day of September, not so long ago. We all are in this fight, and I have no doubt civilization will prevail.
To those who giggle at the fought of a Parisian, Berliner or Madrileno bloodbath, and who actively wish for it to happen real quick so they can enjoy some gory footage on the news shows, well, I'll just say this told everything there was to know about your moral fiber and standards. Even then, I hope the terrorists you wish so much luck won't decide to make a sequel in your neighborhood. You can find every kind of justification for your behavior (and I'm sure you're now quite good at it), but frankly it was just downright sickening.

Here's a picture of Chirac and his defense minister from last evening:
Appropriate color selection too if you ask me.

Of course it is Bush's fault. He pulled France's strongest ally out of a spider hole and threw him in jail.

I take issue with your statement
" France is about to learn - AGAIN - that appeasement to terrorists and bullies is NOT a successful part of a national security strategy."
The frogs will NOT learn. Oh,it will be demonstrated to them but they still won't figure it out. If they haven't learned it by now, they never will.

Yes it is crude humor, but it comes from frustration. I don't think anyone here truly wants your homeland to be the victim of a terrorist attack. Your government, however, needs to realize these people cannot be dealt with diplomatically. They want to rule the world by force and force is all they understand.

The nutsos blaming the French headscarf ban for their next attack is pure malarkey. They were just looking for an excuse. There were a couple of Muslim terrorist attacks in France back in the 1970's. The reason for them was the terrorists didn't think the French did enough to help them. Same thing this time.
We still haven't seen any payback attacks on the people who did help them. The Russian Generals who took plenty of money from Iraq for what ended up to be mostly useless advice, training, and equipment are one example. Leaders who took tons of cash to try and block us from going to war are another. I still think that Iraqi terrorists still at large in the West are going to get some payback out of as many of these guys as they can.

Gee. If France experiences a large scale attack like Spain did, I wonder if they'll reverse that ban!

Thanks. That's not the first time they threaten to rain down destruction, nor it is the first time bombs go off here. Been there, done that, we'll manage it.
Good. Wish you luck. Don't bother to call us, we won't be answering this time.

I know there are honorable people who squirm at the prospect of a hideous crime being committed in their country or abroad. What really shocked me here is not that people choose to vent their anger of frustration at my country by saying "Oh, boy, I hope there'll be a bombing". It's that they were ready to condone and even enjoy a terrorist act, anywhere, and actively wished for it.
As for the present French government, believe me, there a lot of things it does that enrages me. For example, I'd gladly see Mr de Villepin ousted by a furious mob, and then rolled into tar and feathers for having endangered an alliance that had survived 225 years - and, while we're at it, for being a grandstanding pompous buffoon too.
There are French officials you would gladly get rid of, like my President and Foreign Minister, because of their attitude toward your nation. There are US officials whose demotion would not sadden me all that much, like Mr Perle or even Mr Rumsfeld, because of their attitude toward my country. But Mr Perle and Mr Rumsfeld would not have a stauncher partisan than me if some punk terrorist demanded their resignation by threatening to bomb Washington. As far as I'm concerned, he who bombs Washington bombs Paris, he who shoots at an American shoots a Frenchman, he who wish terrorism upon others wishes it upon its own country.
As for fighting terrorism, I rather trust my government to be serious about it. We got Carlos after more than 10 years (that's something to tell to all those nutjobs who say it's "supsicious" that Allied forces have not yet capture OBL, by the way).
No Western government in its right mind lets this kind of murderers roam free. What I want right now is Western agencies sharing every bit of information they have, however vague, and organize joint operations to take down the bombers, wherever they are, and win this blighted shadowy war, be it in Spain, in France or in the US of A. Or better yet : in Spain, France AND the Us of A. As one of your great patriots once said, either we hang together, or we will be hanged separately.

That would be why I posted it as "AGAIN" (note all caps, separated by dashes to offset, isolate and highlight it to indicate that they HAVEN'T learned from their multiple past caves to appeasement).
See? Presentation is EVERYTHING!

Hate you ? Good Lord, no ! Look, we have people who enjoy hiding their national prejudice behind patriotic colors - like every country as it seems, and I guess if the media only talk about them, then you soon have the impression to float in an immense sea of hatred. But that's not representative of the French, Spanish or European street. As I told a fellow Freeper recently, what we have here is a severe case of misunderstanding, of misconceptions about each other, not a severe case of hatred.
To: Atlantic Friend
Well said.
