Sad choice.

No offense, but I think any movie with Ashley Judd is probably going to be a pretty popular choice with those guys. They know all about death and suffering; they see it up close and personal every day. What's wrong with giving them some plain old entertainment?

Totally not surprising. If our military leaders choose to lose the war against political correctness, what faith can we have in their ability to defeat Islamofascism? And where is our Christian commander in chief?

There aint nothing wrong with it at all. And trust me, if they don't like the movie choice they will let the command konw all about it and pronto.

Sad choice.

Perhaps, but consider the powderkeg in which they must presently hang their hats. Like it or not, the Muslims over there are just itching for something to fatwa about. Pushing a purely religious film out there would be like making sparks next to a gasoline-soaked pile of tinder.

Besides, after being in a heavy situation, most everyone I know would prefer comedy over gut-wrenching drama.

I'll second your opinion. Furthermore, despite being a fervent and conservative Christian, I am certain that the Army would not be doing ANYONE any favors by showing "The Passion" at its theater in Iraq.

Dude, you've got to get a grip.

There are literally thousands and thousands of movies that soldiers in the field would rather open up their theater "The Passion." Like maybe something funny, or exciting, or fun.

Honestly, I don't know you, but this post seems exceedingly trollish.

Well...as a former soldier myself I can tell you that these guys were looking for "skin"...ala Ashley Judd.

Why?

AAFES just picked a movie they thought the soldiers would enjoy. If they request "The Passion of the Christ" then they'll probably get it. Twisted didn't exactly bomb at the box office, you know.

After a day patrolling the roadside for IEDs, I know that I'd be in the mood for something a bit lighter than TPOTC.

I don't think anything religious can be sent. This would have sent some Iraqi leaders into a tail spin.

As a former soldier myself I can guarantee those men who are cooped up over there want to see the beautiful Ashley Judd. I would assume that the Iraqi's would go nuts if we sent a religous film over there.

One of the suckiest movies of the last few years, according to almost every reviewer.

But showing "The Passion" in Iraq now is just begging for trouble. I second the suggestion that you get a grip.

The best choice for our troops, absent their decision otherwise (the troops, not the officers) is entertainment. The Passion is not about entertainment.

These guys need an escape.

Uh, I think it is a wise choice. Can't you just see the islamic press and the worldwide left just convulsing about the Crusades? The best choice would have been a testosterone laden action flick.

"I don't think anything religious can be sent."

I didn't either, but I've been corrected. (It's okay as long as it's to those you know personally or who've requested such, but no mass mailings or blind mailings.)

And while I hope everyone over there who wants to see TPOTC gets the chance, I've decided I won't send the DVD to our Marine friend. Greatness of the movie notwithstanding, it could cause our guys all kinds of problems.
