Oh My God! Mel Gibson Wants to do the Story of Maccabees!
Sean Hannity | 3/16/04 | self

Posted on 03/16/2004 3:01:44 PM PST by ChinaGotTheGoodsOnClinton

On Hannity, he was talking to Mel Gibson about other stories in the bible.

When Sean asked him what one he'd like to do, he said the book of Maccabees!

This is of course the book which, from the Catholic viewpoint, Luther removed from the bible due to praying for the dead, but it also covers the exciting period after the Jewish return from Babylon when the Greek general Anticus Epiphanies took over the rule of Israel.

This really is block buster material and opens up the whole debate of the Catholic bible vs. the Protestant one.

What is your freeper reaction?

Cool.

Trajan88

p.s. I'd pay a few bucks to see a movie directed by Mel portraying Americans making fun of American-in-name-only Danny Glover.

Oh, the book of the Bible. I thought you meant the lager brewed in Israel...

It's one thing to produce a movie focused on THE CENTRAL aspect of Christianity -- the crucifixion of Christ. The result has been a condemnation by the secularists, and a rallying to the film by Christians of all stripes. It was a beautiful thing to see Catholic and evangelical spokesmen standing shoulder-to-shoulder on cable news programs, defending the movie, Mel, and this basic tenent of the gospel. It's quite another thing to produce a movie if its intent is to open a battle between the "Protestant" and "Catholic" content of Scripture. The last thing we need on the heels of "The Passion" is something which will widen the split between Christians.

I've always thought the book of Acts would make a great movie. Someone would do well to produce it.

Mel has done us all a great favor by producing the Passion. I will not be nearly as excited about the apocrypal book of Maccabeas. He is welcome to do what he wans. I would have preferred Paul or Revelation.

Alouette was quoting my post, and yes it is true. And I strongly encourage you, as a Jewish-American to look into what this evil man is up to.

Even Luther included them in an appendix and said they were excellent material-- though not inspired.

Which also happens to be the Jewish position, by the way.

"Imagine, fellow Freakers, the cinematic representation of the Salucid Anarch, Antiochus Epiphanes, precursor of the anti-christ, the abomination of desolation standing in the place where it ought not, prophaning the alter of the Most High with a dagger to the throat of a pig."

I'm imagining it! Sort of blows all the "anti-Semitism" crap all to hades right before the starting gate...don't you think? There is not a Jew that could claim that a movie about the Maccabees could be anti-Semitic, but they might complain "how dare a Christian or Catholic make a Jewish movie?"

I'd really look forward to the story of the Maccabees done by Mel Gibson.

Seriously, though, I want to see Mel Gibson's film biography of Constantine. THAT is an epic that has never been made.

Perhaps we can start by treating the Lord's name with more respect.

Could a film like this inspire our Jewish brothers and sisters to restore their temple?

You better believe they would. Especially after some dumb muslim sand crawler sees it and decides to do the same thing at the Wailing Wall.

Here's the story on Foxman from the Arizona Republic:

Abraham Foxman, executive director of the B'nai B'rith Anti-Defamation League, says, "The way he treats history, with a cherry picker of that which fits his ideology or view, is not the way I would like the world to learn about the heroism of the Maccabees or Bar Kochba. So, thanks but no thanks."

Praying TO the dead is not of God's teachings. Praying FOR the dead is. Christians know the difference and abide by it.

BTW, Luther is not the only one to condemn praying TO the dead. God does too!

Revelation... whew! That'd be a tough one to put on the big screen. :-)

I was hoping Mel would do something on Paul.

Wrong!

Eastern Orthodox DO NOT consider them on the same level as the other scriptures. They are used for teaching purposes, etc., and historical value. Only the Roman Catholics consider them "canon" (Their Council of Trent.)
