While exiting the post office awhile back, I was taking a long time due to traffic. The car behind me gave a beep on the horn...I returned a one finger wave.

Found out later, it was my neighbor beeping to say hi!

Oops! LOL. I was doing the speed limit in the rain several years ago. I stopped in the left turn lane for the red light. The driver behind me honked, flipped me the bird, passed me on the left, and turned left in front of me.

When I confronted the woman whose office was down the hall from mine, she turned beet red and appologized by explaining she was from the East Coast. I ribbed her about that every chance I got.

A few weeks ago, I was at the dry cleaners, dropping off some things for my sister and ended up in line behind a police officer on his lunch break. The clerk was trying to find the officer's dress uniform when a man in a business suit stormed into the building, slapped his ticket on the counter, and began shouting for service. He hollered and fussed until the lady working with me finished my ticket and headed over to help him.

I headed out to the parking lot and stopped to have a brief conversation with the police officer, who commented on some damage I'd received to my Explorer during a wreck the week before and what an idiot the other customer had been. By the time we parted company, the rude customer had collected his items, stormed out of the dry cleaners, hopped into his car, and tore out of the parking lot just ahead of us.

I was right behind him when we reached a traffic light that had already turned red. Instead of stopping, he blitzed right through the intersection, almost hitting a school bus. The cop behind me flipped on his lights and siren and whipped around me. As he went past, he just smiled and waved.

That was one ticket that cop was more than happy to write.

A friend of mine is a retired state trooper here in Iowa. He tells a story of receiving this gesture by a driver, so he stops the guy. The guy tells him there is nothing he can do. The trooper hauls him to the county courthouse, gets a judge out of bed, and presents his case. The judge agrees with the guy, you can't be arrested for flipping someone off. The guy is returned to his car to go on his merry way, with an apology from the trooper. 'You are right, there is nothing I can do to you. Sorry about that'. 2-3 hours after the whole ordeal started, the guy quietly drives away, moral victory in hand...
