He has done as you suggest but there are people who are insistent (for various reasons) not to give him the benefit of the doubt and never will. You are missing my point. He has said these things...though he says these things in front of Diane Sawyer and Meet the Press where his answer get washed over. Im talking oval office tv timeout. Explain his position and the fact just before American Idol where morons are waiting for Simon Cowell will get to hear Bush with the truths to the matter that I listed.

You do have a point about him getting "washed over." I'm hoping he's following his runner's instincts and is just pacing himself.
