URGENT: Breaking: 5 Missionaries shot in Mosul, Iraq - Prayer Alert

Within the last hour 5 missionaries were shot in Mosul, Iraq. Their condition is critical and we need to pray now that the military will be able to get to their position and take them to the military hospital in Baghdad. One of them was able to call leadership that he was in and out of consciousness himself. The next several hours are critical! Please be on your knees for these 5 people. Please pray for God's hand to sustain them and to guard their lives.

I don't have an answer for you, Ragtime, regarding the role of the church in this time of war. Perhaps this is a time of winnowing and purifying His children and the church, for great is the spiritual battle that is being fought.

Well from our natural survival instincts we tend to wish to stay away from potentially dangerous situations.
But the calling of God doesn't only apply to us when it is safe to follow Him. If one is called one can only trust and obey. Jesus himself went into a dangerous situation and so did his followers in Biblical times and hence. The apostle Paul definitely comes to mind.

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

I wonder how many of us who consider ourselves good Christians are suffering persecution in even the most minute form.

Others are also in Iraq to do God's work, and taking well-publicized precautions that those in a war zone take to not endanger others.

Waiting for a military escort is not too much to ask.

Our troops are faithful, courageous men and women, for the most part - who, I am certain, welcome the missionaries, and the good they are also doing in Iraq.

Our troops, many also called, do not endanger their fellow Soldiers by going out unescorted, forcing their comrades to risk their lives to rescue them, and by not following simple rules of safety in a war zone, giving the Enemy a weapon to use against all who are sacrificing for freedom - and faith - in Iraq.

Given that, and given the instability and turmoil in that region, I don't think Christian missionaries should be there now. They can only add to the overall chaos and problems.

If not now it will never happen. The middle east will always be a problem until islam has lost its grip there. Islam is the problem unless it is gone it will always rise again in the future, like it has done time and time again in the past for war.

What sort of faithfulness would it be if we shy away from uncomfortable places? Is that what you read in Paul's modeling missions?

But the reality of the situation with respect to these fanatic Muslims over there right now is extremely unstable and anything can set them off. Its better to wait for the smoke to clear before you pick your target.

I can tell that you're a reasonable person by the way you chose your words. There are always going to be fanatics amongst the Muslim, and they're always going to be unstable. Do we chose to withhold the gospel from them because we're afraid to stir them up?
