I wasn't able to watch the Sunday morning shows. Was the Bush crew good?

Yes, very strong. They had Condi and Powell out. I think it is the best I have seen Condi do and Powell made Russet look like the toady he is. The Rat sewer came off looking like amateurs. I have the feeling the GOP has finally gotten off its @ss. It maybe wishful thinking but I thought the WH might getting back its old magic. I could be wrong but I am less depressed about this election than I have been in weeks.

Stay tuned. The fat lady ain't sung yet. ABC News reported at Noon Pacific Time that the Socialists (the opposition) appeared to posting gains

A mea culpa to those on FR I called nervous nellies. Looks like the Spanish people have chosen appeasement.

Sky News blew it big time.

As the Muslims see how malleable the Europeans are they will aim their efforts there rather than ISrael and America. The Europeans will pay dearly for this decision.

Bingo. AQ probably had a collective orgasm when they saw how fast even a staunch US ally folded. My bet is that they're probably going to have a little field day in Europe for a while because now they know they can push them around.

I believe the Socialists promised to withdraw Spain's troops from Iraq, didn't they? I wonder how soon that will happen.

your caveats have some merit but without a local muslim population, there is next to no chance of local wackos converting to Islam. Chechens and Albanians are recruited by Al Qaeda but they are used in lcoal operations.

I wouldnt worry about Poland. Worry about Italy. I wouldnt travel there now.

Not to mention Bush is going to have his first major campaign rally soon in Orlando.

Nice to see them finally start slapping back on the campaign trail.

I also believe Aznar should not have been so confidently proclaiming that the terrorists were Basques within hours of the attack...

Does it just have to make it through parliment in order for it to be law?

Yep. I don't see why anyone would think it won't happen. The Socialists embraced gay marriage in October, when the Party secretary (iirc) escorted two guys - one of them a Socialist elected official in Madrid - to their illegal wedding and then later launched a legal challenge (endorsed by the PSOE) in the constitutional court.

Fox News, CNN, ABC, and BBC to name a few of the networks covering his speech that evening. It was translated from Spanish but he was clearly laying the blame of the Basques.

Looks like the Spanish people have chosen appeasement.

Yeah. And the rest of the world can now expect Al Qaeda will bomb their elections too.

I don't think the brits will kowtow to the AQ thugs, the Italians maybe, but i doubt it.

I hope the Italians don't swing left. I really like Italy! Dream life has me living there, without having to earn a living there.

On a cosmic scale, I am becoming more and more resigned to accept the limits of influence that my opinions carry. The recent election in Spain spells "delusional, unprincipled appeasement" to me.

No offense taken.
I'd gladly have answered to "nervous nellie" and have Aznar's party carry the day.

Looks like too many Spaniards have decided to elect their own slate of Nevilles.

Well, even Britain turned out Winston after WWII...and the USA elected Clinton twice.
Democracies/Republics are always making mistakes...and then regretting and fixing them.
Welcome to the club, Spain.

Yes, I think it's pretty doubtful, too. I can't see another alliance with CiU - which was a miserable situation when the PP was the minority party, anyway.

I know it's a morbid thought, but maybe they'll realize it themselves sometime after the next few attacks.

Our nation showed resolve and got united (well, most of us) when we got hit hard; they took to the streets with massive protests and with a pinch of unrest. The US isn't a push-over anymore. Europe has proven it is. The path of least resistance is usually the one most taken, especially with terrorist organizations like AQ desperate to get back on the map. They're the bullseye right now.
