"As an idle aside, this Socialist victory in Spain almost certainly means that gay marriage or its equivalent will be implemented in the next year."
No it wont!!
There is no support for Gay Marriage in countries along the mediterrean like Spain, Italy, Greece.

"I wonder if this happens in LOndon if the same result will occur. If it does, I am afraid we are in this alone, as always."
No... the Eastern Europeans and Israel are still with us. And by the way, The British will not give you this result... they are the people of Churchill, and I think Blair has proven that.
P.S. I love cajuns!

you'd best run out and get a copy of the Koran. Heck I'm a Roman Catholic - they would probably kill me first but I would rather die fighting than have to read their evil book!

Yep. They've promised to pull everything out of Iraq by June at the latest. Looks like Spain has done exactly what the terrorists wanted them to do.
Unfortunately the way their voters have reacted to the mass murder of their own countrymen, is to give in and appease those responsible.
Europe has a long history of appeasing terrorists and tyrants.
The terrorists must be overjoyed.

Wow, I would think that that would be a hard sellin a country as cotholoc as Spain. Does it just have to make it through parliment in order for it to be law?

I disagree that Poland will be a target of terrorism. What you need ot understand is countries with Muslim populations privide a base for carrying out terrorist operations. Poland doesnt have a Muslim population so, while not impossible, it would be very hard to undertake and plan.
Italy will be a big target now because its population like Spains is essentially pacifist and it has a govt that has gone against public opinion.

"I wasn't able to watch the Sunday morning shows. Was the Bush crew good?"
They gave the "it was probably ETA" line... I was very dissapointed, but realistically I realize they had to say that for diplomatic reasons.
This shouldn't deter us... it should embolden us. As the Muslims see how malleable the Europeans are they will aim their efforts there rather than ISrael and America. The Europeans will pay dearly for this decision.
If Bush wants a smooth re-election all he has to do is regime change in Iran. They are practically begging for it over there.

I just saw on Fox that the Socialists won the election. Congratulatoin al Queda and/or ETA, the Spaniards did exactly as you wished. Cowards.

If you were correct, Bush would be leading in every state. When we were attacked Bush had overwhelming support, around 90% for the war on terror. That was the point.
Only problem now is people are already forgetting 9-11 and are beginning to feel a bit too safe.

Somehow when these Islamist facists begin to execute the left wing gays, the far leftist women libbers, and the atheists. I will find it a little difficult to have much sympathy for them.

Thanks for the ping! I've been out all afternoon and I rushed to the PC as soon as I got back.
The only thing that makes this bearable is that I was pretty sure, as of last night, that the PP was going to lose, so at least there was no element of surprise in it.
Of course, when I got home, I also found an e-mail from one of my Spanish friends who had just been out to vote. She was gushing about how Spaniards had had time to rethink things and realized that the only way to go was to "choose peace" and reject the error of their ways, which was what had brought this bombing upon them.
Hope she enjoys wearing a burka sometime in the not too distant future.
And I hope we all (in the US) learn from this and are prepared for anything that might happen between now and our own elections.

What lefty Euroweenies and socialists worldwide will never realize (due to their acute lack of common sense and/or a plural number of brain cells) is that this "let's all be friends" crap is never going to work! They think now that the terrorists are going to leave them alone just because they turfed the pro-US government? Not a chance! In fact, by cowering in the corner, they just painted a big bullseye on their backside.
Not to mention, as you said, smaller terrorist organizations such as ETA and the IRA might see their chance right now because the European resolve is proving to be weak on the whole.

The "best" thing could happen now is an AQ tape to gloat about its victory in the polls today. This should send a msg to the people who suffer the next attack who they should thank for. Today is one of those days will mark a turn in history, and this time around, we have the Spainards playing the role of Neville Chamberlain. Who said history won't repeat itself. I don't think the brits will kowtow to the AQ thugs, the Italians maybe, but i doubt it. Poles are even more resilent. So there are pockets of hope in the sea of despair.

I agree with a caveat.
When I was in Britain I was amazed at the number of Muslims living in London. I'm sure they have AQ cells there just waiting for their orders.
In a place like Poland, you are correct, there is no sizeable Muslim community....but the caveat is this.
1. Chechens/Albanian. They can pass into Europe easily. I'm really suprised AQ hasn't tapped them as much.
2. Home grown fruitcakes.-Believe it or not, all it takes is for young Stanislav Kowalsky to change his name to Mohammed Al-Mohammed, and you have a potential bus bomber. Remember Johnny Taliban? The San Fran reject.

The interesting thing about the UK is that if Blair goes, the conservatives will win, so the British WOT will go on.
