I would like to think that a proper response by the government would have produced a different electoral result but while it might have reduced the vote against Aznar and the government, I don't believe the result would have been much different. The Spanish are basically no different than other europeans. They will run from battle until it is almost too late to avoid same. Then they will call on the USA to come to their defense.

From
Reuters:
Spain's Socialists lead with half votes counted
MADRID, March 14 (Reuters) - Official results from Spain's general election on Sunday showed the opposition Socialist Party leading the ruling Popular Party by 43.5 percent to 36.6 percent with 48 percent of votes counted.
That would give the Socialists 160 seats in parliament to 140 for the PP, which was ahead in the most recent public opinion polls but may have been hurt by the government's handling of Thursday's deadly train bombings.
If the trend holds the Socialists could be set up to wrest power from the centre-right PP, in office since 1996.

I wonder if this happens in LOndon if the same result will occur. If it does, I am afraid we are in this alone, as always. And when the terrorists are living in their country, raping their women, taking over,,,they will call on us per usual.

I would wait until after hthe US election. A big win for Bush changes things considerably - it would be a solid endorsement of the WOT by the American people. It puts him in a much better position.
After seeing the WH crew out on the Sunday shows this morning I think it is possible that Bush might just pull it off. Only 52% would be enough. That is why I am not so worried by this election. Anyway, if the Euros can be so easily affected then there is nothing we can do about, it is better to know now before we go any farther. You have to realize that there is nothing but left wing media in most of the EU, and it is very anti-american, and very socialist. It is hard for these people to get the truth even presented to them. It is not all that surprizing to me.

As an idle aside, this Socialist victory in Spain almost certainly means that gay marriage or its equivalent will be implemented in the next year.
you think?

This plus a Kerry victory in November, and you'd best run out and get a copy of the Koran.

I agree, before this vote, I thought Spain would send a msg to AQ that, we won't be intimidtaed. but after this, I expect more bombings to come - in Italy, in Poland, in Denmark, UK - and last and not least - France - because of their increasing zeal on secularism. Europe is now open field for AQ, this day will mark a very dark turn in the WOT. Of course it could get much darker if we elect kerry on Nov 2nd 2004. Will see if God is smiling upon all of humanity or not?

"I don't believe the result would have been much different."
I disagree. The PP never made it clear that they would be the Party that would Bomb the Muslims to high hell. In fact, their eagerness to blame the ETA could be interpreted as weakness in the face of Islamic terror. I think the result would have been far different.

If true the nervous nellies on FR were wrong about the Spanish people going the
french route of appeasement.
Stay tuned. The fat lady ain't sung yet.
ABC News reported at Noon Pacific Time that the Socialists (the opposition)
appeared to posting gains.

I'm with you, they now have an incentive to blow up busses....it accomplishes their agenda.
As an aside, I think this will also embolden other little players in the terrorism game.
Imagine if you were an ETA /IRA type guy now......
"You mean after getting nowhere with all our smaller attacks, all we have to do is get really crazy and blow up a lot of people and the government will be thrown out? Man, we should've been blowing up a lot more people a long time ago!!!"
Expect more little terror groups to take it to the next level....Why?.....because it works in Europe.
To: CasearianDaoist; freedom moose
Yep. The Socialist Party submitted a draft proposal to parliament in December for legalizing gay marriage.
