Then they learned that dihydrogen monoxide - H2O for short - is the scientific term for water.

"dihydrogen monoxide as "an odorless, tasteless chemical" that can be deadly if accidentally inhaled."

I believe they call that drowning.

When I was a Safety LPO in the Navy, I came across a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for water.

Kerry would have called that statement "complex and nuanced."

You mean that thing I saw in Lake Erie back in '72 was a whale?

And all these years I thought I'd had too much Boone's Farm.

"It's embarrassing," said City Manager David J. Norman. "We had a paralegal who did bad research."

That's it, blame your underling. The fact that people in charge of environmental policy in this community (including the city manager) are this ignorant of actual science is disturbing. What do they base their decisions on? Greenpeace slogans?

Bozos like this flooded the Park Service and EPA during the Clinton years, displacing real scientists, and getting them out will be a real bitch.

LOL! Here's from their FAQ...

What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO?

Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:
  • Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
  • Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
  • Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
  • DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
  • Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
  • Contributes to soil erosion.
  • Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
  • Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
  • Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
  • Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
  • Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere.
  • Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

This reminds me of a little prank my sh!thead of a nephew pulled. He posted a sign above the water fountain that said: Warning! Contains Hydrogen. He said lots of kids and teachers fell for it.
