But these workers are not her employees. They are leased from a staffing agency, like many others who now supply workers to hotels, grocery stores and cruise ships. And not all of them should be here.

In Biloxi, Miss., Orlando, and Atlanta, it is the same, operators of illegal labor networks told FLORIDA TODAY. So, too, in Indianapolis; Reno; Chicago, Newark, N.J.; and Anaheim, Calif.

Could it be because Eastern Europeans are overwhelmingly white and willing to learn English, they are a safe group of immigrants to bash, albeit a relative tinkle in the ocean in terms of sheer numbers? I'm just waiting until a few are allowed to sue exploitive and dishonest employers and placement agencies for less than the legally mandated wages and bennies. Sure, they would expose themselves to deportation-- but deportation with a bankroll might not be so bad.

"He contends daily with stories of "servitude," abuse and exploitation, as well ...Czechs who have been jailed, hospitalized or, sometimes, killed."

Leave it to the SEIU to keep those stories flowing!

"Americans care that the floors of the Wal-Mart stores are clean, and the goods are so cheap. But they would not be so cheap without these workers."

SEIU and more than 400 religious, community, political, student groups, unions, and immigrant organizations joined forces to build support for a common goal: legalization for hardworking, taxpaying immigrants already in this country."

Take Action!
Don't Deport the Wal-Mart Janitors!

Last month federal immigration agents raided 60 Wal-Mart stores across the country as part of “Operation Rollback”. Reports estimate that over 250 immigrant janitors were arrested in the raids, many after working on night shift cleaning crews. Many of these workers are now in “removal proceedings,” meaning that the government is seeking to deport them from the U.S., an act that will separate family members and generate greater fear in immigrant communities.

Remember that they interchange definitions: Illegal Alien = Immigrant

Holy Moly. We think about putting a finger in one hole in the dike and half the dike isn't even there. This isn't bad, it's unbelievable.

Overseas workers often in U.S. illegally

What a rediculous headline. 'Overseas' workers? They are rather obviously not 'overseas' (exactly which sea does Paige St. John think they are over?) They are immigrants. More specifically, they are illegal immigrants. I'm glad to see an article on the topic, even though it twists and tortures both itself and the English language trying to evade that reality.

Even then, starting with an article on illegal immigration, do we really need to focus on Eastern Europeans? What proportion of the illegal immigrant population is this article focusing on? And why? Even doing an article on Eastern European illegal immigration, why focus on dishwashers? Why not focus on the rapidly expanding Russian mafia? While illegal, and should be stopped, Eastern Europeans (nor Asians for that matter) are not the cultural problem that non-assimilating groups are.

I am not in favor of patronizing millions of illegal migrants bleeding this country dry of resources.

Try somewhere else on that one.

What in the world is a non assimilating group?

What in the world is a non assimilating group?

An immigrant group with significant number of members that rejects all aspects of its adopted culture.

Example: Spanish Harlem, NYC, 2 years ago. I had to brush off my spanish to interact with a THIRD GENERATION American. His great grandparents came to America, his grandparents, parents and he were born and raised here. He didn't speak English. That is non-assimilating.

(The third generation came from me asking when he came to America and was the start of long rant about 'respecting his culture')

California, New York, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Got it.

Happy, I'm no troll! I'm with you. The point of the post is to KNOW YOUR ENEMEY. I'm in the stinking and useless union. I saw the union bosses' name on what else?....Not In Our Name pledge! Sickening. As an IL serf, Latinos are denouncing (GOP Senate candidate) Oberweis, the issue hits home. Dozens of illegals carrying signs: LEGALIZE DON"T CRIMINALIZE! Protesters making statements as, "We're just here for a better life."

Another point I wanted to make is the irony albeit collusion between the unions and illegal labor and political pandering and profit motives. I wanted to find out if there was a connection to the hotel in FL the AFL-CIO had their senior meetings in last month. I would not at all be surprised. "Omar Koort's illegal labor network included contracts with hotels as far south as Lake City, Fla."

What should we do about the open borders with Mexico and the throngs rushing across to live here?

Should we let them come?

With the Welfare State we have now and no hope of casting it in the dump, there should be no "open" border for undocumented to exploit my welfare. No Amnesty. What should we do? One thought is give authority to social services to hotline DHS on illegals. If an illegal goes to the emergency room, picked up by police, registers for school, etc. Getting an undocumented deported is only a phone call away. It's a daunting task and the US has failed and thirty years late. Now Congress (and the WH) is full of pandering fool to the growing minority of possible voters, and new union members' money. Should we let them come? You mean immigrants? Yes. The issue gets deep with visas types. Oh, one thing to do is transfer all university records on non-citizens to DHS for administration. It's a loophole that can bring in anybody.

Good idea about DHS and the foreign student problem.

And good point re: immigrant ~vs~ illegal alien.

The system is almost broke, and nobody wants to take the political risk(s) necessary to fix it - NOBODY!

So what happens? We all suffer and watch the system slowly but surely break.
