Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

but as you see it was the communists who took control.......

When I heard the election result in Spain, the first thing that came to mind was that these threads have certainly become prophetic.

And then I shuddered.

Source: Dutch police arrest Morocco bombing suspect

I think this character needs further googling.

Dutch police arrest Morocco bombing suspect

3 March 2004

AMSTERDAM — Dutch police have arrested an Al Qaeda suspect who was allegedly involved in terrorist bomb attacks in the North African nation.

The Public Prosecution (OM) in Roermond said on Tuesday that the Belgian man of Moroccan ancestry was arrested on 27 January in the Dutch province of Limburg, news agency ANP reported.

The man was detained during a routine traffic check when police discovered he was the subject of an international arrest warrant.

The man is in remand custody in the Dutch city Vught and Roermond Court must decide on 18 May whether to extradite him to Morocco.

He is suspected of involvement in the five suicide bombings in Casablanca on 16 May last year. Anonymous sources in Morocco have previously claimed that the bombers might have received help from people in the Netherlands and Belgium.

A total of 45 people, including the 12 bombers, were killed in the attacks which were directed at restaurants, hotels and Jewish targets. Four men have already been sentenced to death in Morocco for the bombings.

The bombers allegedly did not have the skills to make the bombs themselves, but it is suspected that they received help from Moroccan supporters in the Netherlands and Belgium who were trained in Afghanistan

But lawyer Victor Koppe said the arrested suspect denied the allegations and indicated he was amazed that the Netherlands was considering extraditing him despite the absence of an extradition treaty between the Dutch and Moroccan authorities.

"My client will definitely not get a fair trail in Morocco and he could possibly get the death sentence," he said.

Koppe also claimed that Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner has requested more information from the Moroccan authorities. According to the lawyer, the extradition request also accuses the suspect of financing terrorism.

A Radio 1 news report said on Tuesday night that the arrested man is suspected of having close links to Osama bin Laden and is allegedly a member of the Al Qaeda terrorist network.

Five men were arrested in the Netherlands last October on allegations they were involved in the preparations of a terrorist attack. They were allegedly linked to a man involved in the Casablanca bombings, but were later released due to a lack of evidence.

the one year anniversary of the brginning of war in Iraq.

It's a very real possibility. The attacks in Spain told us that dates do matter to them and that they are using the Iraq war as their jihad cause.

I know this is waaaaay of topic, but surely these are strange times in which we are living:

Possible Tenth Planet Found

March 15, 2004 —NASA later on Monday will announce the discovery of what could be the tenth planet in our solar system.

The rocky world, orbiting the sun out beyond Pluto, is about three-quarters the size of Pluto, between 800 and 1,100 miles in diameter, according to news reports.

The scientists who found the object found another world, called Quaoar, in 2002. The new object, dubbed Sedna for the Inuit goddess who created the sea animals of the Arctic, is larger than Quaoar. more...

Wanted terror suspect got Dutch tax number and job

5 March 2004

AMSTERDAM — A man wanted on an international arrest warrant for alleged involvement in bomb attacks in Morocco somehow managed to obtain a tax file number and a job under his own name in the Netherlands, it was reported Friday.

The authorities in Morocco have been seeking the man, identified as Khalid B., since five synchronised bomb attacks killed more than 40 people, including 12 suicide bombers, in Casablanca on 16 May 2003. The attacks were primarily aimed at Jewish targets.

The suspect, a Belgian of Moroccan ancestry, is suspected of helping to finance the attacks.

He was detained by police during a routine check on 27 January in the Dutch province of Limburg.

The Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) revealed earlier this week that the man produced authentic identity documents bearing his real name. Officers checked and discovered he was wanted on an international arrest warrant.

And there was another twist in the story when Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported Friday that the man had apparently been living openly in Maaseik, Belgium, and had worked for car manufacturer Ford.

Despite the international search for him, he got a job in a Dutch cake factory, via an employment bureau. In order to take up the work, he applied for and obtained a Sofi tax number from the tax authorities in the Netherlands.

A Sofi number is the primary identity number in the Netherlands and is used when dealing with most government agencies.

The employment bureau that got him the job told the newspaper that the man's documentation was in order and did not "set any alarm bells ringing".

When the newspaper asked the Dutch Justice Ministry how a wanted man could obtain a Sofi number so easily, the question was forwarded to the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Then the ball was passed to the Finance Ministry, which is responsible for issuing Sofi numbers. A spokesman there said that a tax number is only issued if genuine documents are furnished with the request.

Meanwhile, Khalid B. remains in custody in the Netherlands to await a decision on whether to extradite him to Morocco. Defence lawyer Victor Koppe has raised doubts his client can get a fair trial in Morocco and warned he could face the death penalty if convicted.

I wonder if the terrorists had meetings at the restaurant in the Netherlands. When I did a search on yahoo for 4515SB it turned out to be the postcode for a snackbar. It was the only hit on all of Yahoo besides the lightbulb stock number (that was mentioned in an earlier post)
