WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.
"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

If the theory that after these bombings the Spanish voted for the party that promised to withdraw troops from Iraq - said Castelli - were true, then Al Qaeda achieved an extraordinary political victory, promoting change in Spain, a change in international relations and a change in the European makeup. Bump to Castelli! This is worse than a schoolyard bully, gangbangers intimidating to avoid victims testifying in court...they will hold the world hostage, Spain should be the last dumba@@es that fall for this!

DOE raises concerns about nuclear weapons plants security.
March 16, 2004
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Energy Department's internal watchdog is raising concerns about security at the nation's nuclear weapons plants.
A report by the department's inspector general says the plants have eliminated or reduced training for guards responsible for repelling terrorist attacks. And it says that leaves the government unable to guarantee the plants can be adequately defended.
The report says one plant has reduced training hours by 40 percent, and some plants conduct tactical training only in classrooms.
It says only one out of 10 plants surveyed trains guards in the basic use of a shotgun. None of the plants teaches guards how to rappel down buildings or cliffs because of concerns that guards might be injured. The report noted that one guard died rappelling in 1995.
In response to the report, the National Nuclear Security Administration acknowledges that training for guards has suffered because of overtime demands at weapons plants. It promises to review training to make sure it's adequate.

Osama bin Laden: missed opportunities [CIA had video of him in fall of 2000]

As the 9/11 commission investigates what Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush might have done to prevent the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, one piece of evidence the commission will examine is a videotape secretly recorded by a CIA plane high above Afghanistan. The tape shows a man believed to Osama bin Laden walking at a known al-Qaida camp.

Iran Erupts?

IRAN ERUPTS? [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Secondhand, from an Iranian:
I am listening to KRSI (Radio Sedaye Iran) right now. There are many Iranians calling (from Tehran, and Gorgan, etc.).
All reports indicate that almost every neighborhood in Tehran is on fire. People are throwing home-made bombs, Molotov cocktails, etc. into the homes of mullahs, and burning pictures of Khamenei in complete defiance of his recent edict to mourn during the month of Muharram.
